The Haas Financial Aid Office administers approximately $16 million dollars in private loan funds, $14 million dollars in Federal Loan funds, and $14 million dollars in institutional scholarships. The Financial Aid Counselor works closely with the Assistant Director of Financial Aid and UC Berkeley Financial Aid and Scholarships Office in the design, planning, and administration of financial aid programs and the delivery of financial services to students enrolled in the Haas School of Business degree programs.

Responsibilities

* Analyzes a variety of factors (financial data, family circumstances, social background, academic status, educational goals) and applies knowledge of federal, state, University, and outside agency laws, regulations, and policies to determine students' eligibility for various types of financial aid.

* Primarily focuses on determining eligibility for Federal Unsubsidized, Grad PLUS, and Private Loans.

* Assists students with verification and Cost of Attendance Adjustment Requests.

* Supports the administration of Haas' need-based grant program.

* Identifies available resources and unmet needs to determine appropriate allocation of aid awards for individual students.

* Monitors the awards of fall graduates enrolled in only one term.

* Monitors the awards of those in the concurrent degree program with the School of Public Health, as health professional students are eligible for a greater amount in Federal Unsubsidized Loans.

* Coordinates with other UC departments to implement and evaluate student-focused programs, and services.

* Coordinates with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office in the administration of new aid programs.

* Works with Billing & Student Services to troubleshoot student billing issues. Works with Third Party Contracts to support students who have fees covered by sponsoring agencies.

* Advises departments on existing financial aid procedures, resources, and options available. Recommends changes in financial aid policy or procedures to benefit specific student groups, e.g., students with disabilities.

* Works with the MBA and MFE admissions offices to ensure that they have up-to-date information before they begin recruiting.

* Supports the MBA and MFE program offices when they identify a student in need of financial assistance.

* Coordinates and evaluates yield and retention activities for targeted student groups. Recommends changes or development of new activities.

* Uses queries to access information from the admissions platform to analyze yield throughout the Full-Time MBA admissions cycle.

* Analyzes exception reports of students whose aid packages could not be handled by automated programming and determines action needed to resolve issues and complete aid allocations for these students.

* Routine issues that arise for the office are over awards and unpaid aid. Consults Financial Aid and Scholarships Office when the method to resolve is unknown.

* Communicates with students when action is required of them to resolve the issue.

* Participates on standing department committees to provide advice on procedural issues.

* Bi-monthly meeting with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.

* Coordinates, implements, evaluates, and reports on government, agency, or donor aid programs. Consults with external agencies on procedural issues or individual student's eligibility. Interprets regulations and develops or recommends procedures to ensure compliance and accurate aid delivery.

* Tracks total debt across programs for both federal and private loans.

* Tracks donor fund recipients to share with the Department of Alumni Relations in an effort to support donor stewardship.

* In the case that there are issues with accessing queries to successfully provide the necessary reports, we coordinate with the Student Informations team or the Haas Technology Support team.

* Reconciles large volumes of student data from multiple sources.

* Queries are used to obtain information from three sources: the admissions platform, student information system, and Haas' homegrown system.

* Scholarship administration, updated grad dates, and residency status are a few of the data points that require the reference of multiple systems.

* Identifies and resolves mismatches and errors.

* Coordinates with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office when ISIR mismatches are identified.

* Identifies and implements database elements, queries, and reports needed to monitor aid programs. Analyzes reports to resolve ID allocation problems.

* Pulls a weekly query from the student information system to identify and resolve over awards and unpaid aid. Also used to track loan volume.

* Other queries may be run to track outstanding balances, unapplied aid, and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

* Provides individual counseling on non-routine, sensitive aid issues. Exercises professional judgment to authorize changes in financial aid award.

* Counseling may be done in-person, via phone, or video chat.

* Sensitive issues often include credit issues, dependent/spouse expenses, and
