Job Title: Systems Engineer

Location: Service Center Building & Grounds, 4041 N 72nd Street, Omaha, NE 68134

Reports To: Director of ESU #19

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 day 12-month / Exempt

Salary Schedule: Specialist 4 92D

Position Purpose:
This position is responsible for analyzing, modifying and updating multiple SQL databases that house both work and facility management data for the Buildings and Grounds Division. The individual will monitor and support the network systems, equipment and support staff with issues that arise in both the Buildings and Grounds department as well as within the Transportation department. This position is responsible for supporting the TMA system and provide training to users and will be responsible for website design and maintenance of sites. This position will also help support various district IMS projects as needed.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:


  • Ability to write PowerShell and Bash Shell scripts

  • Knowledge and experience with conversion to and supporting Identity Services Engine (ISE)

  • Knowledge of and experience supporting IP phones

  • Website creation and maintenance

  • TMA facilities management system support

  • Desktop, network and phone support for Facilities and Transportation staff.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects with strong attention to detail.

  • A valid Nebraska Driver's license and automobile.

  • The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with all staff, students, parents, administrators, and the community.

  • Ability to understand technical manuals and procedural documentation as well as keep documentation up to date.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Sciences, Networking or other related technology field required. MCSE and/or MCDBA certification preferred.

  • Minimum of four years of database experience with Microsoft SQL.

  • Minimum of two years of experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2012-2019, Active Directory, Azure and Group Policy Management.

  • Previous experience with a computerized maintenance management system and or a facility management system preferred.

  • Experience troubleshooting wireless networks.

  • Basic knowledge of Cisco network and phone equipment.

  • Experience with iOS devices, iPhones and iPads

  • Solid work experience supporting Macintosh OS up to 10.15+, iOS 9.3.5 to 13.0+ and Windows 10

  • Minimum of two years of experience designing and deploying reports using either Crystal Reports or Microsoft Reporting services

  • Minimum of three years of experience designing and managing Intranet and Internet sites required.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects with strong attention to detail.

  • A valid Nebraska Driver's license and automobile.

  • The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with all staff, students, parents, administrators, and the community.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS's guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Limited travel may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:


  • Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.

  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Work in school building and central office environments.


Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.

  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.

  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.

  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.

  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.


Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.

  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.

  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.


Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
