Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Sustainability Intern supports identification and execution of divisional and corporate, sustainability and social responsibility opportunities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

Refine comprehensive list of active 2021 Sustainability initiatives for the division to include, progress updates and next steps.

- Develop a baseline for water usage in the Salad Plants, and work with VA Plants to identify and quantify projects to reduce that usage.

- Liaison with Corporate Sustainability staff to support 2021 corporate-wide sustainability campaigns; by sharing divisional updates, content and images. Assist with developing content for the next corporate sustainability report.

- Develop a weekly Tracker to report the divisions veg/salad donations to charitable organizations. Present the Tracker in weekly S&OP meeting.

- Explore zero waste options for Monterey office and provide recommendations to execute.

- Gather and analyze data needed in preparation for customer's annual sustainability surveys.

- Other activities assigned as time permits.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

-

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.

- Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, climb on and off harvesting or plant equipment, lift up to 15 pounds (including overhead)

- Ability to work in various weather conditions

- Ability to walk on uneven ground

- Ability to work for short periods in a cold environment (35 - 40 degrees)

- Ability to speak Spanish is helpful

WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT

- 40-hour workweek, no overtime expected

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

- Periodic travel to and from fields, Salinas offices and Soledad processing facility; mileage will be reimbursed (the Sustainability Intern will need to have a car and valid driver's license).

Required Experience

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

- Fall 2021 Junior or Senior majoring in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences or related field.
