Department's Website:art.uark.eduSummary of Job Duties:The University of Arkansas has recently been awarded a $120 million gift from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation to establish a School of Art. The gift created the first and only school of art in the state of Arkansas, and is helping to propel art history, art education, studio art and graphic design forward, while also providing unparalleled opportunity to students. In addition, the School of Art has recently received a $40 million gift from the Windgate Foundation to build a new Studio Art and Graphic Design Facility that will open Fall of 2022. The mission of the School of Art is to develop one of the highest quality educational, research and service programs in the visual arts available nationally. The School currently includes 53 faculty, six staff members, and more than 400 students; it currently offers six degree options: BFA in Art Education, BFA in Graphic Design, BFA in Studio Art, BA in Art History, BA in Studio Art, and an MFA in Studio Art. (Advanced degrees in Art Education, Art History, and Graphic Design are in development.) The school is a fully-accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

The School of Art, in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for an endowed, tenure-track assistant professor in graphic design to start in August 2021. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. We seek a candidate with a strong and developing national reputation achieved through a compelling research record; one who demonstrates curiosity in emerging technologies, novel design methods, and interest in expanding the canon. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience in collaborating with local and indigenous communities.

Join a group of faculty and students who are passionate about designing at the edge of what is possible and what is preferable for the future of communities, culture, and technology. The newly established School of Art aims to create a nationally recognized model for faculty research, teaching, and service. Endowed professors are expected to develop innovative, collaborative, and interdisciplinary initiatives both inside and outside the university that support the university's mission as a flagship, land-grant institution. Endowed professors are supported by annual research funding of $60,000, and their initiatives may be realized in a wide variety of forms across the research spectrum. Endowed professors will also teach the equivalent of a 2/2 teaching load in the Graphic Design BFA program, the new MDes in Design for Collaborative Futures program, and/or the School of Art Foundations program.
