Work Hours/Shift: Full Time GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Technical Director of the Hyperbaric Medicine Department, the Hyperbaric Medical Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician. Operates and maintains the byperbaric chamber(s) and associated systems and equipment. Accompanies patients in the chamber while undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, when deemed necessary by the Medical Director. Assists in the delivery of patient care appropriate to the level of his/her medical training.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complies with Employee Code of Conduct
Demonstrates compliance with all federal, state and local laws; rules and government regulations
Verbalizes understanding of reporting process of any actual or perceived violation
Recognizes incidents as defined and described in the Hospitals Institutional Policies and Procedures
Understands the method and reasoning for reporting incidents
Demonstrates ability to complete the Hospitals Incident Report Form
Assists the Department Manager or others in recognizing and reducing risk within the Department or other areas of the Hospital
Demonstrates FHT PRIDE (Personal Responsibility in Daily Endeavors) by providing courteous service, assisting lost guests, and problem solving to meet special needs or requests
Performs duties in a timely manner and provides updates if delays occur
Communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal or external customers, in person or on the telephone
Demonstrates respect for co-workers and develops positive working relationships with other departments
Maintains a professional appearance and manner and adheres to the Hospital dress standards

Demonstrates knowledge of role in the Life Safety Program and participates in Fire Drills as appropriate
Demonstrates knowledge of role in the Medical Equipment Program and how to report malfunctioning equipment
Demonstrates knowledge of role in the Utility Systems Program and the departments response to utility failure

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform patient assessments/interventions by identifying, physical, psychosocial and developmental needs and adapting interventions accordingly
Communicates with parent/guardian regarding care issues and/or concerns per the plan of care (which is based on level of family comprehension, understanding, and readiness to learn)
Maintains a safe environment utilizing appropriate equipment and safety devices, based on patients age and level of cognition
Performs procedures utilizing approaches and equipment appropriate to patients age and size
Demonstrates ability to interpret age specific data and plan and implement care base on interpretation of assessment findings.
Provides patient/parent education based on assessed education level, barriers to learning, and learning preferences
Prepares the hyperbaric chamber, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Operates, maintains and ensures the safety of the hyperbaric facility and all associated systems and equipment
Explains purpose and procedure of hyperbaric treatment of the patient
Carries out hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment protocols as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician
Observes the patients and the hyperbaric systems during the course of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Reports unusual occurrences to hyperbaric physician and records patients condition
Qualifications KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.
Performs moderate physical work exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds of force on an occasional basis, performing such activities as fingering, grasping, carrying, lifting, holding, reaching, opening, pulling, pushing, speaking, hearing, walking, and writing
Must possess good verbal and written communications skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Graduate from an accredited school of EMT (Basic) or equivalent medical training may be substituted with Qualification as a US Navy Deep Diving Medical Technician or Special Operatoins Technician or Deep Diving Medical Technician through a civilian company or Certified Respiratory Therapist.
Must attend a UHMS approved hyperbaric course
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
EMT (Basic), Paramedic, LPN or equivalent military experience or Certified Respiratory Therapist
Hyperbaric Tech certification
BLS
