Position Overview

As a Safety Coordinator, you will report to the project Safety Manager. Your primary responsibilities centers on the successful implementation and support of the Site Specific Safety Plan in the field. You will assist the project Safety Manager with the application of the contract, client safety expectations, Corporate Safety Manual, District Standards, and all laws governing the work. You will also verify to ensure that work is being executed as planned, problem-solve with operations and craft, assist with corrective measures, and provide resources to correct and maintain solutions.

This position is based out of South Dakota

Responsibilities


  • Manage the company environmental health and safety programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work.

  • Compile, analyze, and interpret occupational illness and accident statistical data at the project level; recommending process and product safety features that will reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.

  • Routinely inspect the mining facilities, machinery, and safety equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.

  • Routinely monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on the correct behaviors when observed.

  • Develop environmental health and safety training materials to include manuals, brochures, PowerPoint presentations etc.

  • Conduct incident investigations by interviewing witnesses, compiling witness statements, photographs, measurements and assessed damages to determine root causes. Subsequently formulating corrective action deliverables to prevent repeat occurrences.

  • Develop a paperwork management system to track safety training records to track all training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors.

  • Coordinate and present safety training to support client requirements including new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout and rigging inspections.

  • Interface with Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) officials/inspectors in the event of a site visit.

Qualifications


  • 10 or more years' relevant construction experience with a minimum of five or more years' EHS management

  • Assist in planning, organizing and implementing district Safety Management Programs at industrial construction projects.

  • Conduct safety training, job safety analysis, workplace audits and incident response as needed.

  • Embody the Kiewit approach to safety, being constantly aware of conditions and work practices, being empowered to stop all unsafe work when needed

  • OSHA 30 certification

  • Ability to work in highly specific work environment (excavations/tunnels) and around related equipment.

  • The physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions and move objects up to 30 pounds

  • Ability and desire to travel and relocate as business requires. Project assignments may involve full relocation or temporary assignments facilitated by a turnaround schedule
