Job Description:

ERM is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Senior Environmental Remediation Design Engineer to join our growing team in Philadelphia, PA (office in Malvern, PA). Working under the direction of professional engineers, project managers, and partners, you will work on interesting site investigation and remediation projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic area and other US and global locations. Projects will include design and construction-related tasks associated with groundwater, sediment, soil, and vapor remediation – using in-situ and ex-situ remediation and treatment technologies – at active and inactive sites. You may also have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, covering the full spectrum of ERM’s services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Lead a design team for various projects and work as a part of a larger engineering design team to prepare remediation design and construction drawings (working with our CAD operators), technical specifications, and contract documents.

  • Design and negotiate remedial solutions for contaminated soil, groundwater, vapor, and sediment, using innovative and emerging remedial treatment technologies as well as traditional systems.

  • Assist clients in developing and implementing contaminated site management strategies.

  • Evaluate various remedial technologies for applicability at specific sites.

  • Perform remediation design tasks including evaluating field data, performing calculations, estimating quantities and costs, and preparing design reports.

  • Provide field support as needed for design parameter development and during construction for oversight and Construction Quality Assurance purposes.

  • Provide general engineering support on environmental projects related to performance assurance, compliance, and transactional services.

  • Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. 

  • Manage projects and tasks, appropriately delegate assignments to project teams, and mentor junior staff.

  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

  • Communicate with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agents, and site contacts.

  • Interact with ERM offices worldwide to generate proposals and coordinate projects.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • BS in civil, environmental, chemical, or geological engineering or related degree. MS in a relevant field a plus.

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience with complex site investigation/remediation projects under a variety of local, state, and federal regulatory structures (e.g., CERCLA).

  • Understanding of environmental regulatory processes (federal and state levels), a broad range of in-situ and ex-situ remedial technologies, and remediation design and construction.

  • Experience performing design calculations and preparing design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documents.

  • Experience guiding a team through all steps of a remediation design project.

  • Experience preparing detailed technical and environmental reports.

  • Experience interacting with regulators and clients to facilitate project progress.

  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Detail-oriented, thorough, and able to work on multiple projects concurrently.

  • Ability and willingness to travel.

  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

  • Local candidates preferred.
