Political Producer/Reporter - Newsy at The E.W. Scripps Company in Washington, Washington DC

Newsy's innovative Washington, D.C bureau is looking for a talented off-air television producer/reporter to break news and find unique stories that appeal to a vibrant, smart audience on cable and award-winning over-the-top TV apps. Newsy provides anti-partisan, independent and solutions-focused journalism, and you're a fit if you're hungry to pitch and pursue smart, enterprise story ideas.

You'll work with our team of on-air reporters, videographers and producers to shoot and produce videos from the field, newsroom and your home. A video news background and a proven record in creative digital storytelling are strongly preferred.

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Producer/Reporter is responsible for all aspects of reporting and producing videos. This journalist will focus on everything Washington -- from the White House to Congress and the campaign trail -- with the goal of providing viewers with compelling stories that add clarity to the nation's political discourse.

KEY ACTIVITIES

• Generate compelling, innovative and timely story ideas


• Gather information through network of sources, in-depth research, and using data


• Think visually about best ways to tell a story using video


• Meet tight deadlines while also juggling long-term projects


• Plan ahead to produce videos about expected news events


• Availability to work a variety of shifts when news warrants, including weekends


• Assist in coverage of major news events and breaking news


• Perform other duties as needed and directed

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

            EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field required


• Digital reporting experience preferred


• At least three years experience covering Capitol Hill, the White House, campaign politics and/or policy issues.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Professional contributor with ability to work with a team


• May be responsible for entire projects or functions where general guidance and training of less experienced professional and/or support personnel are needed


• Independently performs assignments with instruction limited to results expected.


• Mastery of the theories and applications of professional journalism


• Advanced knowledge of organization’s technologies and practices


• Exceptional command of the English language


• Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment


• Exceptional organization
