Position Overview

Drive diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination cement tanker to transport cement from outlet plants to company batch plant locations.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

1. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspection of vehicle to ensure safe operational order and report maintenance or repair issues.

2. Climb into cab using hand rails to enter.

3. Drive truck to loading location, monitoring various gauges during operation of vehicle.

4. Drive vehicle through scale prior to taking on load. Driver will need to position tank under loading area. Cargo will be poured into tanks from a spout, pumped in or dumped into tank from hopper. Driver needs to open doomed lid on top of the tank prior to entering loading area and after load is complete.

5. Complete paperwork with distributor.

6. Drive vehicle to destination.

7. Attach hoses to truck with clamping system. Open valves to discharge contents of tank. Discharge the product into storage while observing the hose and connections to ensure there are no leaks or other hazards. Return discharge hoses to proper storage area. Return fill caps and covers. Make certain the product hose that is hooked up to the discharge line matches the type of cement that is being hauled. If the product hoses are not marked, ask the batch plant operator for assistance. Discharging a product into the wrong cement silo is very costly.

8. Complete paperwork with patch plant operator.

9. Write entries in logbook: Noting freight hauled, destination, hours/miles driven and rest periods.

10. If necessary obtain chains from storage on the trailer and drape them on the drive wheels of the truck and fasten into place. Remove chains when roads are clear.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, License, Registrations

• Must possess a valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class A with doubles/triples and a tanker endorsement.


• Must possess a valid Medical Card as per DOT standard.

Work Requirements

• One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience


• Incident free driving record preferred


• May be subject drug and alcohol, medical exams and physical agilities testing.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Ability to communicate using two-way radio.


• Basic math


• Basic computer skills preferred

Physical Requirements

The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
