We are currently seeking candidates for a Private & Not-for-Profit Underwriter position in our Minneapolis Branch. The ideal underwriter will have experience handling D&O, Employment Practices, Fiduciary, Crime, Cyber, Professional Liability and Healthcare products for private and not-for-profit companies within the territory.
Our Underwriters are responsible for blending analytical and marketing skills into an effective business style by applying analytical skills to the risk assessment process; developing solutions for global customers; cultivating relationships with agents and brokers while using relationship to place business with Chubb; selling Chubb’s competitive advantages in the marketplace and negotiating pricing and terms and conditions in a competitive marketplace that meet the customer’s needs and positions Chubb to achieve a profit.
As a Private & Not-for-Profit Underwriter, you will be accountable for and expected to:
Meet or exceed financial goals including profit, rate, retention and growth
Utilize appropriate tools and strategies to underwrite new and renewal business within area of product, customer and/or industry segments
Maintain underwriting quality standards including appropriate documentation and authority relating to underwriting decisions
Serve as a point person to collaborate with various underwriting service groups for assigned agents
Maintain high visibility through proactive key account communication and visitation with producing agent
Develop and execute effective marketing strategies to generate profitable new business growth. Extensive monthly agency travel expected
Analyze opportunities and create business development strategies for assigned book of business. Prospect for new business across all financial lines areas. Drives opportunities by account rounding, cross-selling and up-selling. Document prospects in Salesforce or Tracker
Support and collaborate on branch sales and marketing initiatives including new product launches
Support and collaborate on branch agency management activities including agency analysis and planning, education and visitation. As part of the branch agency planning process, conduct analysis of agency book of business and work with manager to establish new business goals
Educate agents on products, service, automation, and underwriting standards as well as sales and marketing techniques for financial lines products. Participate in agency education events including CE courses and product fairs within area of expertise
For assigned producer manage agency relationships and expectations. Develop and execute an effective agency strategy to grow the business
Inform manager of coverage and/or product opportunities and weaknesses impacting growth potential. Gather pertinent competitive information to assist in developing product recommendations
Work collaboratively and effectively with team of Underwriters, Underwriting Associates, home office technical experts and all others
Develop technical expertise of Underwriting Associates

To be considered, candidates must demonstrate the following knowledge and skills:
Underwriting acumen: demonstrate deep technical knowledge of Chubb and/or other financial lines products, competitors, customers and marketplace within dedicated areas of expertise. Exhibit rigor and expertise in underwriting accounts within the financial lines area. Ability to adhere to underwriting strategies and compliance standards
Experience and knowledge of Private Equity and Venture Capital-backed risks preferred
Account management: demonstrated ability to build strong key account relationships and manage customer expectations under changing market conditions. Proven track record in achieving high account retention and growth
Negotiation skills: proven ability to find creative solutions that strike appropriate balance between insured and producer needs while adhering to Chubb financial lines underwriting standards. Comfortable walking away from accounts, if necessary
Sales & Marketing: knowledge of Chubb products, competitors, customers, and marketplace. Demonstrated ability to effectively execute growth and retention strategies. Proven prospecting skills, effective use of sales and marketing tools, and utilization of Salesforce/Tracker
Agency management: ability to build strong agency relationships and manage expectations under changing market conditions. Track record of results in promoting business retention and growth
Collaboration: ability to work collaboratively with multiple business units, branch and home office stakeholders, and employees of all levels. Demonstrates effective consultation and partnering skills
Communication: demonstrated ability to differentiate the Chubb proposal by effectively articulating (verbally and in writing) our strategy, appetite, capabilities and competitive advantages
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce and other business-related software
Qualifications
Education and experience required:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum three years underwriting experience
