The Ohio Department of Administrative Services, Human Resources Division, Benefits Administration-Disability unit is seeking an experienced Benefits Management Representative to perform the following duties:
Assists in development & implementation of benefits policies & procedure affecting state employees claims for disability leave benefits:
Provides technical assistance to state workers & state agencies to resolve benefits issues related to disability, workers compensation & injury leave;
Develops methods to implement policies & procedures for all state workers & implements statewide policy;
Analyzes medical information & applies established criterion to facilitate the case management process;
Coordinates & case manages disability benefits claims through communication with employees, agencies, medical providers & others to determine the appropriate benefits to apply;
Works with agency representatives to coordinate a timely return to work for the employee;
Coordinates & case manages disability claims of basic to moderate complexity;
Analyzes medical information & applies established criterion to facilitate the case management & return to work process;
Researches, reviews & prepares disability files to present & collaborate objectively in order to facilitate case resolution;
Reviews and process disability claim applications & medical reports in claims processing system & document management system.
Acts as a liaison between Benefits Administration Services, state agencies & state employees regarding disability leave:
Researches complex telephone & written inquiries from active & former employees & state agencies concerning eligibility, payments & continuation of disability benefits;
Coordinates & researches workers’ compensation claims & resolves & responds to appeals;
Resolves complaints received from employees & form employees;
Provide assistance & information to hearing representatives & represents management in appeals in disability claims;
Interviews claimants or authorized parties to obtain additional/needed information pertaining to claims;
Contacts employees, agencies & physicians as part of claims management activities;
Recommends measures to improve processing & claims management;
Operates personal computer to enter, edit & retrieve data & produce documents.
Performs other duties related to case management, processing claims & coordinating with state agencies.

24 mos. exp. in processing benefits enrollment with third party administrators &/or insurers in governmental agency or private sector; 12 mos. exp. in public relations; 3 mos. exp. in operation of video display terminal or personal computer.
-Or for positions responsible for or assigned to disability benefits, must have: 24 mos. exp. in adjudicating benefit claims or in coordinating benefit claims issues with third party administrators &/or insurers in governmental agency or private sector.-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
