Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Subject to Call)
Under direction of the Assistant Laboratory Systems Director, coordinate all activities of crime laboratory (e.g., consult with & inform the Assistant Laboratory Systems Director on any & all matters concerning the crime laboratory within the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Investigative Services Section) & establish priorities & supervise subordinate supervisory personnel (e.g., provide developmental opportunities, coach staff to foster development, evaluate performance, approve section staffing levels, recommend discipline).
Oversee laboratory examinations (e.g., supervise, assign & assist with forensic examinations, collection of physical evidence & courtroom testimony, ensure compliance with applicable laboratory safety standards & regulations).
Conduct laboratory examinations as required (e.g., provide quality assurance in crime laboratory procedures relating to toxicology & controlled substance examinations, develop & maintain toxicology method analysis protocols.
Ensure compliance with policies, procedures & directives & manage office functions (e.g., perform duties within crime laboratory at the direction of the Assistant Laboratory Systems Director & assume crime laboratory responsibilities in the absence of supervisor, provide formal & informal training to law enforcement agencies on laboratory procedures & services & handling & submission of evidence (e.g. provide training in toxicology, specimen collection techniques & applicable safety regulations)); Train new personnel (e.g., train crime laboratory personnel in their duties & prepare them for future responsibilities, promote high level of morale, productivity & competency in laboratory personnel).
Completion of masters degree (or equivalent) in physical or biological science (e.g., chemistry; biology, or physics); 3 yrs. exp. in analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.
-Or completion of undergraduate degree (e.g., B.S., B.A., or equivalent) in physical or biological science; 4 yrs. analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.
-Or 6 yrs. training or 6 yrs. exp. in physical or biological science that included 3 yrs. exp. in analytical testing & evaluation of evidence in criminal matters.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
