Department Description

The Department of Public Health Sciences is a large, complex teaching and research department in the UC Davis School of Medicine. Our mission is to improve the health of people through population-based approaches by carrying out educational programs, epidemiologic research, public service and policy development. Based in the Department of Public Health Sciences, the UC Davis Fejerman Lab is a multi-disciplinary lab focused on breast cancer health disparities. Research in the lab includes breast cancer genetics and tumor genomics in populations of mixed genetic ancestry, and outreach and cancer education in underserved populations. This position will provide data management and statistical analysis support for a large Latin America Genomics of Breast Cancer (LAGENO-BC) Consortium that includes more than 20 sites and 11 countries as well as for other projects in the Fejerman Lab, such as the Peruvian Genomics of Breast Cancer Study (PEGEN-BC).

Responsibilities
This is a fulltime, career position based in Davis. The Research Data Analyst 3 provides database building, data management and analytic support to a large group of investigators, as well as undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral scholars in the lab. The incumbent will be responsible for the organization and distribution of LAGENO-BC consortium data to national and international collaborators. He/She/They will also work with public genetics/genomics databases as other data might inform/enrich lab results. The incumbent will be the main bioinformatics/biostatistics expert in the Lab and will assist with research design, and perform analyses of complex datasets, including genome wide sequence or array-based data. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the inventory database for available specimens in the Fejerman Lab. This position will also assist with grant preparation and manuscript writing. The Research Data Analyst 3 reports directly to Dr. Fejerman.

Required Qualifications

* A master s degree in statistics, epidemiology, or related field with experience, preferred, OR demonstrated significant experience in data analysis and management involving large and/or complex research programs, or similar environment.

* Excellent R programming skills.

* Familiarity with genetics analysis software (PLINK) and R packages for analysis of genetic and RNA seq. data (e.g. DESeq., gap, bioconductor)

* Experience with software packages for ancestry estimation desirable: e.g. Admixture, RFMix/LAMP-LD.

* Extensive documented data analysis experience using standard and complex statistical techniques, with the ability to summarize and report information and create graphics usable for presentations and publications.

* Experience with and understanding of statistical modeling including generalized linear models, testing of assumptions, and application of state-of-the-art methods to practical epidemiologic problems.

* Strong ability to work independently, to juggle a large number of responsibilities and projects, and to prioritize different projects or tasks.

* Excellent judgment in handling ambiguous requests or data problems.

* Excellent skills and experience in communication with persons who have diverse backgrounds relative to knowledge of the study databases and to level of quantitative understanding. This includes field staff, clinicians, and scientists from a wide variety of disciplines.

* Ability to explain details regarding the databases and protocols in language understandable by not only collaborators but also students and those not familiar with epidemiologic or human studies.

* Ability to easily learn new software.

* Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Special Requirements

* Post-Covid19, this position will be both remote work and in-person, and details of the proportion of remote vs. in-person work will be discussed between Dr. Fejerman and the candidate.
