SUMMARY
Coordinates and manages all facets of the quarry operation including production and maintenance of all equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under general supervision with specified policies, practices, and objectives. Refers questionable items to supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises supervision over employees working in the quarry department including supervisor, miner operator, haul truck drivers, and mechanics.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of quarry operations and processes.
Familiar with MSHA/OSHA regulations, safe work practices and hazard recognition
Familiar with basic air, water, and waste regulations
Understands of QA/QC processes as they apply to mechanical, electrical, and mobile maintenance processes and procedures
Knowledge of departmental budgeting and forecasting
Knowledge of workplace rules and regulations enforcement
Experience with working with a collective bargaining unit
Ability to follow a mining plan and contract out mine planning resources.
Familiar with quarry processing equipment such as crushers, belt conveyors, dust collectors etc. along with an understanding of the mechanical and electrical principals to safely operate that equipment
Familiar with mobile fleet operating practices and maintenance on front end loaders, haul trucks, bulldozers, graders, water trucks, etc.
Familiar with preventative maintenance, proactive maintenance and reliability centered maintenance principles and practices
Familiar with surveying principles and practices
Skills needed include communication, decision making, strategic planning, troubleshooting, supervisory and organization skills.
Ability to move around all plant areas, some of which are only accessible by foot.
Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Must communicate effectively in both written and verbal terms. Must be computer literate.
Work requires considerable physical exertion such as frequently climbing ladders and stairs, bending, and walking over rough and slippery surfaces. Exposure to temperatures above 100-degree Fahrenheit and exposure to all weather conditions.
Education
High school graduation or equivalent. Some college preferred.
Experience
Two years or more experience performing similar or related duties
