Job Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Responsible to support the Mortgage Unit's mortgage applications/underwriting/closing processes by assisting in the timely set-up of incoming mortgage application packages, under the direction of the unit underwriters, and to provide support for the closing associated activities. This position is a W-2 Contract role that is needed for a three months.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES


  • Responsible for the complete, accurate and timely set-up of incoming member mortgage-application packages including their completeness and compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory and underwriting/investor requirements.

  • Developing and maintaining a general knowledge of all loan real estate programs offered by or through the XFCU mortgage unit, including all relevant XFCU and investor underwriting and documentation requirements.

  • Timely reporting of the status and results of all mortgage-related activities to their designated supervisor.

  • Learning and mastering, on a continuous basis, the use of automation, documentation and communications technologies utilized by the Mortgage Unit to originate first mortgage and other real estate loans.

  • Acting as a back-up for the Unit's mortgage closing activities, assisting the closing group in tasks determined by the needs of the Unit's closing target(s).

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of all aspects of the XFCU web-based mortgage program. Will interact with other departments and the XFCU mortgage web partner while monitoring web volume and performing daily associated tasks.

  • Responsible for increasing their knowledge of underwriting and the principals involved. Must interact with underwriters daily on both a proactive and reactive basis.

  • Work with the mortgage team to ensure that quality service standards and member satisfaction are maintained and are consistent with XFCU policy, standards, procedures, and guidelines.

  • All mortgage positions are cross-trained within the department. It is expected that each staff member will step in where needed during the normal ebb and flow of mortgage-related business.

  • Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge in the cross-trained area of post-funding and HMDA data collection within the mortgage units. This includes such responsibilities as meeting the post-funding requirements of the mortgage units, the industry secondary market and XFCU investors, and HMDA collection and preparation of the Quarterly and Yearly HMDA reports.

  • Responsible for participation in final quality control checks on each funded mortgage.

  • All other responsibilities or duties as assigned to ensure workload coverage, which may change or new ones may be assigned at any time.

  • Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements as described in the Credit Union's Customer Information Program (CIP), BSA and OFAC Procedures, including recognizing and reporting suspicious and/or CTR reportable activity to the BSA Officer and completing the job-specific required annual BSA/OFAC training as scheduled (with a passing score of 80% or more).


  • B.A./B.S. degree or high school degree with equivalent work experience required.

  • Must have a minimum of 2-4 years in a mortgage bank, mortgage broker, or the mortgage operations of a bank, savings and loan, or credit union, which involved the setting up and packaging/preliminary evaluation of incoming mortgage loan application packages.

  • Requires good organization, communication and interview skills as well as a solid working knowledge of mortgage lending standards and documentation needs.

  • Be computer literate

  • Must be able to work well with other staff.

  • Must be willing to work flexible and /or extended hours on minimal notice.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in one-on-one and group environments.

  • Ability to work independently and in teams.

  • Must have working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Must be able to analyze and solve problems, including performing analysis and producing professional documentation with recommendations.

  • Ability to understand rates, ratios and percentages, and draw and interpret graphs.

  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
