Job Description:

This position provides oversight of the Offices of Care Coordination and Clinical Initiatives and assist Defense and Veteran Brain Injury Center Headquarter (DVBIC HQ) in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Surveillance and neurocognitive assessment program (NCAT). Supports TBI education efforts at DVBIC HQ and within the DVBIC Network across the country at DoD medical treatment facilities and VA hospitals. Teach, coach and mentor contractor division staff, and contract Network Site leadership and clinical staff regarding TBI research and education initiatives at multiple different sites. Serves as the SME for the effective implementation of the DVBIC Clinical Programs and for intensive, evidence-based, multidisciplinary treatment interventions of TBI. Champion these programs as an effective standard of care option for intensive, multidisciplinary care for patients along the full continuum of TBI severity. Assist and contribute expertise in the development and recommendations of strategic level clinical guidance, administrative policies, and network resource allocations for government leadership. Takes initiative, acts independently and performs with minimal direction and oversight in responding to issues in her/his areas of expertise and responsibility as part of a high-tempo office environment and virtual, asynchronous workflow.


  • Provides supervision over contract staff and functions in the Offices of Care Coordination and Clinical Initiatives and assist DVBIC HQ Leadership in TBI Surveillance and NCAT programs.

  • Serves as teacher, coach, and mentor to the contractor HQ division staff, contract Network Site leadership and site clinical staff.

  • Serves as SME for the effective implementation of the DVBIC Clinical Programs and for intensive, evidence-based, multidisciplinary treatment interventions of TBI.

  • Serves as the champion of these programs among DoD, Congressional and academic stakeholders as an effective standard of care option for intensive, multidisciplinary care for patients along the full continuum of TBI severity.

  • Works closely with the Director of Research to ensure that current research projects have clinical integrity and are relevant.

  • Works closely with the Quality Improvement director to identify opportunities for improvement in the clinical program, and to devise strategies to effect improvement though the use of Lean Six Sigma techniques.

  • Assists and contributes expertise in the development and recommendations of strategic level clinical guidance, administrative policies, and network resource allocations for government leadership.

  • Assists in the development and analyses metrics for identified programs in support of demonstrating the program's effectiveness and feasibility for expansion and provides reports to government leadership.

  • Takes initiative, acts independently and performs with minimal direction in responding to issues in her/his areas of expertise and responsibility.

  • Provides oversight in the execution of training for contract staff and external stakeholders.

  • Conducts quarterly site visits to multiple DVBIC Network Sites.

  • Serves as a TBI Clinical and Policy SME in internal and external working groups, their primary spokesperson and advocate for program/project development and implementation under the direction and oversight of the government.

Responsibilities


  • Experience and familiarity with the military health care system, military command structure, rules and regulations and its unique culture preferred.

  • License in respective healthcare related field preferred.

  • 5+ years a Faculty, Board Member, or Physician with academic and healthcare institutions

  • Published author/contributor to medical journals and publications related to Brain Injury/Neurological research

  • Certified in Brain Injury Medicine


  • Experience in the care of patients with TBI - in-patient, out-patient, or rehabilitation settings or obtain Certified Brain Injury Specialists (CBIS) certification within 6 months from the date of employment is required.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communications skills required.

  • Outstanding managerial skills to be able to track, monitor, and quality control programs at distant sites required.

  • Knowledge and application of theoretical frameworks related to leadership, healthcare management and administration required.

  • Adhere to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy.

  • May involve travel from HQ to Network sites and meeting venues.

  • Must be available to travel locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
