Medtronic Diabetes is looking for a Sr. Electrical Engineer to design, develop, document and test novel electronic systems with analog, digital and RF circuits for both AC line powered and battery-operated microcontroller/microprocessor based medical devices. The Electrical Engineer will also design and develop automated test systems or subsystems for testing the devices described above in both laboratory and manufacturing test environments.

You will be responsible for electrical system design, circuit design, writing test requirements and test procedures, PC-based simulation and data acquisition. You will write detailed electrical specifications, test procedures/reports and generate/review design documentation in compliance with design control procedures used within the medical device industry. A Day in the Life

  • Design, develop and test analog, digital and RF circuits in commercialized medical devices and automated test systems


  • Support the development of ultra-low power mixed signal Integrated Circuits to be used in medical devices


  • Evaluate and select components, generate component specifications, as well as functional and test specifications


  • Research and implement state of the art technologies to enhance product features, improve reliability and device size (electronics miniaturization), optimize manufacturing throughput and lower cost


  • Implement Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) principles within the functional area


  • Support Manufacturing in troubleshooting operations involving medical devices through assembly and test


  • Provide technical assistance to other functional departments such as Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, Reliability and Manufacturing


  • Mentor and review he designs of less experienced engineers.


  • Work under the guidance of a Principal level engineer and/or Engineering Manager

  • Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.


  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

    Must Have: Minimum Requirements


    Education Required


    Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline


    Years of Experience


    Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with 2 years of experience


    Nice to Have



  • MS Electrical Engineering


  • Experience in digital and analog circuit design


  • Experience with wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, BLE, WiFi, etc)


  • Knowledge of state of the art PCB fabrication technology (SMT, BGA, blind and buried microvia, flex circuits, etc.) and assembly


  • Knowledge of formal PCBA documentation (schematics, PCB fabrication drawings, PCB assembly drawings)


  • Experience with basic laboratory instruments and tools (e.g. DMM, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer)


  • Experience with technical report writing


  • Ability to work in a team environment; strong collaboration skills


  • Effective verbal and written communication


  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision


  • Experience with the following: medical device design, ultra-low power battery operated systems, embedded microcontroller/microprocessor system and firmware design


  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements that pertain to medical device electronic systems


  • Knowledge of schematic design and layout using CAD tools for PCB design such as OrCAD, Cadence Allegro and/or Altium Designer


  • Knowledge of manufacturing test equipment design


  • Experience with National Instruments LabView/LabWindows is a plus


  • Knowledge of RF circuit (DC to 2.4GHz) and antenna design


  • Experience working with vendors and contract manufacturers for PCB fabrication and assembly
