Position Description

We are looking for a results-oriented Data Architect to work with business and technical teams to understand the needs, processes, application portfolio, and existing data to deliver large-scale data solutions that enable business innovation and operational efficiencies.

This person will be ultimately responsible for performing the data analysis and profiling necessary to provide direction, standards, and implementation of data management solutions associated with data ingestion, transformation, integration, and analytics.

The Data Architect will be responslble for the conceptual, logical, and physical data models of the Kinder Morgan Data Warehouse, Master Data Management, and other critical Business Systems.

Responsibilities and Activities


  • Define and govern overall modeling standards, guidelines, best practices, and approved modeling techniques.

  • Work closely with technical teams to develop and deliver conceptual, logical, and physical data models, corresponding analysis results, and artifacts (e.g. data dictionary) according to data architecture standards.

  • Provide oversight to project technical teams to ensure proposed data and ETL models are appropriate for technical solutions and follow data architecture standards.

  • Mentor and work with data warehouse and data modeling staff to ensure data modeling best practices and guidelines are followed.

  • Work with Data Stewards on data governance and data quality programs across business and data domains.

  • Identify and propose data model and data integration enhancements, including master data management and data services.

  • Participate in data integration, business intelligence (BI), and enterprise information management programs by rationalizing data processing to support reuse.

  • Ensure that critical information assets modeled as part of any project are represented in the enterprise information architecture (EIA) and follow the design guidelines and requirements of EIA.


Position Requirements

Qualifications and Experience


  • Minimum ten (10+) years experience in a multi-disciplined IT environment with strong expertise in data analysis and data modeling and involvement in enterprise architecture.

  • Minimum seven (7+) years experience with conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling of data marts (dimensional star schema) and 3 rd normal form.

  • Minimum of seven (7+) years experience, hands-on, data profiling and performance tuning databases and data marts with Oracle and / or SQL Server.

  • Experience taking a leading role in architecting, designing, and setting standards for data models.

  • Experience in various data modeling methods including entity relationship, object-oriented logical modeling, JSON schema, relational, XML, and other physical design patterns.

  • Knowledge of interpreting business processes and requirements and translating them into logical and physical data models adhering to documented standards and best practices.

  • Able to reference examples of large scale transactional system data models designed and implemented.

  • Use of data modeling and relationship tools such as ERwin, System Architect, etc.

  • Preferred exposure to BI and end user reporting tools such as PowerBI, SSRS, and Business Objects.

  • Preferred exposure to cloud computing data warehouse platforms (e.g. AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Snowflake).

  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills with experience in interacting with business and technical teams at all levels.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related technical disciplines.
