Job Description:

Arcadis is currently searching for a Staff Civil Engineer - with 3 years' experience, to join our Water Business Line - Water Management team in the Long Island City, NY office.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our nationally recognized technical staff and utilize their expertise and knowledge of flood control infrastructure design & construction for career growth.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Engineer will support the general civil and site design team from planning level to preparation of detailed design of large infrastructure related flood protection systems.
  • Responsible to produce design calculations, portions of technical reports, site drainage, utility relocations, grading plans, etc. as well as the development of engineering plans and specifications for projects that may including; levees, pump/lift stations, floodwalls, gates, diversion canals and stormwater and water supply systems.
  • Must work effectively in team situations and establishes strong relationships with other teams where overlap of client project work exists.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Skills may include: public speaking, ability to work as part of a team, preparation and development of technical documents, prior client involvement and/or relationship skills as part of the project team.
  • Will work directly with a variety of engineering disciplines, office / project staff, client and sub-contractors, throughout the project life cycle, and therefore should have clear and concise, oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate meetings, conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports.
  • May be asked to work as a Task Manager on projects to manage task related budgets and schedules, lead task deliverables, and assists with the development and management of plans, permit checklists, scopes of work and will facilitate coordination for timely completion and submission of projects.
  • Ensure project compliance with all Arcadis practices, maintains a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, quality, rules & regulations and enforcing safety standards.

Additional Skills

  • Basic understanding and experience with AutoCAD and/or other similar CADD software.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing project drawings, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Functional experience with MS Office applications.

Required Qualifications


  • 3 years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural, Civil Engineering or a related field of study.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree
  • 5 years' experience in Engineering Consulting
