The Health Information Management (HIM) Physician Advocate Team is responsible for initial and ongoing operational provider training and to improve clinical content documentation. This training supports coding/billing/CDI programs and provider efficiency using various Epic EHR (Electronic Health Record) and voice recognition applications. The team provides initial and ongoing training and clinical build to educate and optimize physician interaction with clinical content. While delivering this training to providers, they integrate clinical documentation integrity, regulations, compliance, coding/billing requirements, revenue integrity, Epic EHR knowledge, proficiency, efficiency, and optimization.

Responsibilities
This program provides Epic EHR and voice recognition applications training based on the provider role and clinical setting. This includes access and technical training, enhancing provider clinical documentation tools, system optimization, clinical documentation analysis, template build, and partnering with Coding managers on physician clinical documentation efforts that support CDI and coding workflows.
Target audience: new and existing faculty, residents, fellows, other billable providers (NP, PA), and 3rd/4th year medical students in all clinical and hospital settings. A key focus of this program is integrating the right clinical applications and tools to optimize clinical documentation, provide workflow improvement, and increase provider satisfaction.
As a technical leader in clinical applications, the Epic Clinical Trainer/Builder applies advanced professional concepts and extensive clinical and industry knowledge to lead and/or work on medium to large projects of broad scope and complexity. Recognized expert in many EHR clinical and voice recognition applications. Responsibilities include providing leadership and serving as technical resource to the team; designing, developing, testing, building, implementing, and evaluating clinical documentation and clinical application systems for improvement in the organization. The team provides technical support for voice recognition users, including access, configuration, troubleshooting, and on-call support. This position is also involved in the planning, development, training, implementation, and evaluation of systems to support clinical and hospital operations.
Epic Clinical Trainer/Builder functions as technical leader with a high degree of knowledge and skills in the overall field with recognized expertise in specific areas. Requires frequent problem solving and analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.
The Physician Advocate Team has certification and expertise in Epic clinical applications used by providers (Inpatient, Ambulatory, ASAP, OpTime, Anesthesia, Stork, Beacon, and Radiant), plus expertise in voice recognition integration. This integrated approach allows the team to support all areas of focus during provider engagement. The team builds ongoing relationships with these providers, and partners with other subject matter experts to address needs and concerns. This provides a one stop comprehensive experience to the providers.

Required Qualifications

* Strong clinical knowledge and clinical workflow expertise

* Epic certification in Inpatient or Ambulatory

* Strong experience with Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) build and configuration

* Broadly encompassing or high in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in Epic clinical applications with clinical documentation expertise

* Advanced knowledge of operations, systems, functions, and workflow, including planning, design, development, build, implementation, user support, training, maintenance, quality assurance, system testing, and evaluation

* Advanced analytical skills and expertise in clinical documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, plan and implement testing systems, collect and analyze performance data, and produce substantive reports and analyses for management use

* Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner

* Advanced interpersonal communication skills to effectively train, support, and collaborate productively with clinical users and key stakeholders at all professional and technical levels

* Advanced organizational and project management skills, detail oriented, and ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule

* Advanced written and verbal communication skills, to convey highly technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users and staff in a specific, clear, and concise manner

* Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with key personnel and management, providing guidance and recommendations on systems, improvements, upgrades, and industry trends

* Able to travel to Wisconsin to attend Epic certification training sessions

* Required to pass Epic certification exams in three attempts within three months of training date

* Able to work overtime and/or flexible hours as needed to meet committed project dates


Preferred Qualifications

* Additional Epic certifications (beyond the required Inpatient or Ambulatory)

* Bachelor's degree in clinical healthcare field (Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, etc.) or equivalent. Master s degree preferred.

* RHIA, RHIT, or CCS credentials

* Experience in healthcare clinical practice environment including experience with healthcare information systems

* Academic institution or large integrated health system experience
