NATURE AND PURPOSE

The Assistant Researcher will develop and oversee a highly creative and high quality applied research program pertaining to predictive science and advancing our understanding of transmission dynamics of emerging pathogen spillover from animals to humans and spread among humans, incorporating issues impacting human and animal health in a changing environment. The position will take primary responsibility for research and collaborate with UC Davis faculty on joint research needed to grow programs. The appointee is expected to secure funding as a Principal Investigator, and may also be funded as a co-PI and Co-I within the One Health Institute on large-scale collaborative programs and grants.

*

Devise and conduct studies designed to investigate:
A. One Health disease dynamics using a data science and data driven approach to assimilating large datasets that integrate animal, human, and environmental drivers of pathogen evolution and transmission
B. Disease risk from the local to global scale by developing new predictive computational methodology, including the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to forecast and understand risk.
C. Ecological drivers of pathogen evolution, emergence and spread in geographic regions undergoing rapid environmental change by harnessing technological innovations to characterizing risk
D. Novel methods for mathematically modeling disease transmission risk among wildlife and humans
E. Design and advice on surveillance and field studies to generate data required for development predictive and mathematical models of infectious diseases among wildlife and humans
*

Collect, summarize and analyze data
*

Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
*

Prepare reports on research findings
*

Help acquire funding to support research in infectious disease dynamics

Other research duties may include:
