JOB SUMMARY: Patient Transporters are responsible for the safe and expeditious transport of customers and supplies to and from locations throughout the campus. Patient transporters are required to operate and maintain (cleanliness/safety) various types of patient transport systems (beds, specialty chairs, stretchers, and wheelchairs) along with their associated support equipment (e.g., oxygen tanks and regulators, IVs with poles, pumps, bed inflation units, and tubes) in accordance with established procedures. In the outpatient setting: Responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies necessary to assemble patient information folders. Follows policies and procedures of West Florida Hospital. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and adheres to WFH standards of behavior.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages stress appropriately and can make decisions under pressure, handle multiple priorities, work in areas that are confined and /or crowded. Medium work level with periods of standing, lifting, stooping, bending, pulling with force, reaching above head and shoulders, twisting at waist. Must be able to distinguish colors, hear alarms/telephone/tape recorder in normal speaking voice. Good manual dexterity and clarity of vision. Occasionally may push or pull up to 50 lbs. Frequently may push or pull 35 lbs or less at multiple heights and degrees of rotation. Extensive walking. Rarely may lift 50 lbs from floor, as well as waist level up and carry 50 lbs with assistance for distances of less than and no greater than 5 feet at one time. Frequent handling of objects weighing 25 lbs or less. Attendance and schedule flexibility are essential to this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Vocational or technical education preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant OR a minimum of one (1) year as a Medical Assistant or Patient Transporter at a licensed medical facility preferred.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Organizational, critical thinking, customer relations, multi-tasking, and communication (both written and oral) skills in a detail-oriented, reading and comprehension skills, and customer-focused organization are required.
