Database Developer - Express Scripts at Cigna in St. Louis, Missouri

JOB SUMMARY

The Database Developer position will contribute to the ongoing build out and enhancement of our web-based analytics delivery platform in support of our internal customers within PBMS Services to help drive differentiated service, operational efficiency, and a positive member experience.  The Database Developer will use their experience building and maintaining a SQL Server environment to code, test, debug, document, and maintain the SQL Server platform.  As a Database Developer, you will also contribute to the onboarding and continued mentoring of junior developers, and contribute new solutions, patterns, and best practices to the organization at large.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Work with PBMS Analytics Leadership, Information Technology, as well as internal customers to design and implement platform-level enhancements delivering improved ease-of-use, new developer-empowering features, as well as uncompromising data security.


• Enable the delivery of interactive, data-driven applications to enhance throughput, reduce cost, and improve quality within PBM Services.


• Mentor junior developers in SQL and SSIS, and other components of the team tech stack.


• Help junior developers understand Agile software development practices.


• Enhance/troubleshoot existing infrastructure and applications to support evolving business needs.


• Attain and share subject matter expertise in the platform itself, the Information Technology infrastructure on which it depends, as well as the business processes and outcomes it seeks to improve.


• Proactively conduct root-cause analyses and identify and implement enhancement opportunities associated with the supported platform and its component applications.


• Present results and/or recommendations to internal stakeholders as needed.


• Create, communicate, and adhere to development timelines.


• Balance and prioritize projects across a wide development portfolio.


• Assist the team in opportunistically evolving and improving the overall technology stack.


• Maintain consistent focus on maximizing value delivered through team activity.


• Work on special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS required, MS/MA preferred


• 3 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 1 year of relevant experience


• 1-2 years PBM experience preferred


• Advanced analytical and strategic thinking skills.


• Experience designing and maintaining SQL Server environment.


• Experience querying relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, MySQL, or Hadoop Hive).


• Experience with Agile methodology for software development.


• Experience with ETL processes and the tools to support them specifically SSIS.


• Strong Organizational skills.


• Ability to design solutions that are innovative, thorough, practical and consistent with organizational objectives.


• Demonstrated ability to prioritize work load and meet project deadlines.


• Troubleshooting skills.
