Business Communications Advisor - Project Management at Cigna in Nashville, Tennessee

Job Description:

Cigna is seeking a strategic and consultative communications professional to join the business communications team. This individual will serve as the communications lead for a complex, multi-year business project that spans Operations and Information Technology (IT). A successful candidate will be able to effectively navigate and build relationships across core business organizations, the Communications team and business leadership and create and execute a comprehensive communications strategy in support of this project, while also supporting key projects for the business communications team.

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for developing integrated and holistic communications plans that spans internal, external and stakeholder (e.g., client, broker, customer, vendor) communications for a key, multi-year business initiative.

  • Partner with business leadership to create and execute a variety of internal and external communications activities and tactics timely, informative and engaging leadership communications, including emails, town halls and video messages.

  • Lead the development and execution of strategic, timely, informative and engaging leadership communications, including emails, town halls, presentations, and video messages – while also balancing the need for and creating more tactical communications and updates for the project team.

  • Engage and motivate project team members and inform broader audiences about business priorities using the appropriate communication channels.

  • Align with and contribute to the planning and development of integrated communication strategies (internal, external, stakeholder) and tactics that effectively communicate the goals of business initiatives in Cigna's growth platforms.  

  • Provide proactive counsel to key internal stakeholders (executive level) on communication solutions, including out-of-the-box paid, earned, shared, owned communications strategies that will help achieve business objectives.

  • Identify critical opportunities to communicate to external audiences, ensure consistency and connection to larger enterprise messages. Key focus on tailoring messages, as appropriate, to different stakeholders.

  • Builds strong relationships across the Communications team, business partners and leaders, as well as key project partners such as Human Resources, Change Management and Project Management Office (PMO).  

  • Ensure deadlines are met and consistent, appropriate processes are followed to obtain final approvals from subject matter experts, project leaders and compliance/legal team.

  • Monitor and evaluate efficacy of strategies and tactics for continuous improvement, with clear KPIs to demonstrate ROI of each communications program.

Ideal candidates will offer:


  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related discipline and at least 6-8+ years’ experience in corporate setting/agency, with expertise in internal and external communications, including public relations.

  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write for a variety of audiences across multiple communication channels/vehicles, including print, online, broadcast and social media.

  • Strong track record of developing and executing strategic communications plans for large, multi-year, complex business initiatives or projects that connect to core business objectives.

  • Ability to translate highly complex, technical content into concise, impactful, compelling stories.

  • Strong verbal communications, with a proven ability to present and clearly/succinctly articulate strategies and recommendations.

  • Experience in identifying the relationship between business and communication objectives.

  • Experience in project management, developing detailed project plans and schedules.

  • Excellent organizational skills and a record of success in juggling multiple projects and deadlines and working in a highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive, client services-oriented environment.

  • Proactive self-starter who can jump into to virtually any scenario – including navigating ambiguity – demonstrating good judgment as well as tact and discretion to work with Cigna employees at all levels.

  • Thoughtful and influential personal leadership style, with the ability to develop strong working relationships and provide communications counsel to senior leaders, including C-suite executives.

  • Experience in using/identifying technology tools for measurement and reporting.

  • Comfortable working in a virtual environment.
