Affordability - Business Architect (Operations Senior Advisor) at Cigna in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Job Description:

A key strategic objective of Cigna is driving affordability for clients and customers. The Strategic Planning Senior Advisor will work with business leads to clarify their strategic intent, create business cases, define capability needs, clarify the operating model, and mobilize execution. Incumbent must have health care industry knowledge, possessing an understanding of medical and pharmacy cost drivers, and health care operations spanning the customer, provider, and payer. In addition, the Incumbent will work with the Solutions organization to clarify the Go to Market strategy, including product pricing, packaging, and market communications. This role will translate strategy into execution, defining the solution to a level of granularity to enable IT teams to architect the solution, and operational teams to manage change to impacted stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Partner with business leads and analytics to clarify the strategic intent, scope and sequencing, and benefit levers

  • Clarify the operating model specifying which business function will perform each component of the solution

  • Gather capability requirements to specify the high-level business needs, and draft portfolio epics

  • Partner with IT to estimate implementation costs, with business leads to identify major operational impacts

  • Clarify the Go To Market strategy for the solution, including pricing, performance guarantees, client elections, marketing and client reporting needs, and go to market timing

  • Once business case developed, facilitate leadership decisions to rank new opportunities against an existing prioritized backlog

  • Mobilize execution phase by educating delivery team on strategic intent, scope, capability needs, and operating model

  • Stay engaged in execution to ensure strategic intent is achieved; assist in facilitating decisions and resolving major issues/risks

  • Monitor timeliness of execution and value realization along the targeted benefits schedule


T echnical Skills & Demonstrated Knowledge:

  • Ability to groom an opportunity from high-level concept to well-defined solution ready for implementation

  • Strong business acumen, with ability to apply health care industry knowledge base to new problems and opportunities

  • Preferably has knowledge of clinical solutions to manage utilization (medical necessity, level of care, site of care)

  • Experience developing benefit models, including specifying benefit drivers, and key savings and/or growth assumptions

  • Ability to map out a high-level value chain in order to identify the major business functions involved and to inform IT architecture

  • Ability to work with operations leaders to facilitate operating model decisions regarding ownership of individual functions

  • Good sense of the level of detail IT needs to size work in order to inform prioritization and confirm capacity to deliver

  • Strong decision facilitation skills, able to define options and their implications, and broadly socialize recommendations

  • Excellent oral, written presentation and communication skills

  • Ability to lead and influence in a matrixed environment is critical

  • Ability to drive to results independently

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with both business and IT leadership


Level of Leadership:

  • Self-directed and capable of leading a team, either as a direct manager or as a part of a matrixed team

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results while maintaining positive working relationship with teammates and matrix partners

  • Able to influence in direct and matrix environment

  • Sensitive to the appropriate level of detail given leadership level


KNOWLEDGE/COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred (e.g. MBA, MHA, MPH)

  • 5-10 years of related work experience, either as a management consultant, business architect, business analyst, business process engineer, program manager, or product manager

  • Agile and Project Management certified (i.e. PMI, list others types) preferred; six Sigma training also valued

  • Experience in change management evaluation, planning and execution. ADKAR experience desired.

  • Strong business acumen, with proven ability to leverage knowledge base to quickly come up to speed in new business areas and new types of projects

  • Experience evaluating, developing and implementing business processes, measurement systems, and dashboards

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, embrace change and help others see the opportunity

  • Comfortable with raising questions, issues, ideas or suggestions to co-workers at all levels across all organizations.

  • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written and training, along with excellent presentation skills.

  • Ability to work in a matrix environment

  • Work both independently and in conjunction with co-workers of all levels

  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office tools

  • Some travel may be required (10%)
