Database Administrator at BioClinica in Melbourne, Florida

Job Description:

Administers, maintains, develops and implements policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company's database(s). Responsibilities include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, reviewing service related reports (e.g: service tickets, database backups, maintenance, monitoring, performance) on a daily basis to ensure service related issues are identified and resolved.

Primary Responsibilities
Ensures database servers are fully operational and conform to all user, company and regulatory requirements by:
- Installing and managing all company databases employing corporate and/or generally accepted standards, including service pack deployments and patch upgrades when necessary
- Installing and deploying databases using pre-made upgrade/install scripts
- Creating installation scripts including base installation scripts to create tables, indexes, stored procedures and initial data.
- Completing performance tuning including tuning the physical layer of the database, scheduling index rebuilds, and working closely with IT on any hardware requirements.
- Examining execution plans to determine where indexes can be built to improve performance.
- Performing data modeling including creating the physical data model and modifying the model on an as-need basis; working closely with data analysts and product managers
- Creating data warehousing (SSIS) packages for data extraction, transformation, and loading
- Creating processes to load and scrub data
- Writing and tuning stored procedures
- Loading and exporting data.

Ensures data integrity and accessibility by:
- Creating backup plans that are efficient and budget neutral
- Developing, implementing and communicating the backup plan and schedule
- Testing backup plan periodically to ensure functionality; addressing any vulnerability identified
- Testing disaster recovery scenarios including performing regular random drills

Ensures database servers are secure by:
- Working with IT, applications programmers and product development to identify user and application access requirements; documenting access decisions
- Developing, implementing and communicating processes to ensure actual access is compliant with authorized access

Maintains Quality Service and Departmental Standards by
- Reading, understanding and adhering to organizational SOPs
- Assisting in establishing and enforcing departmental standards including defining, documenting and implementing applications development standards as needed
- Participating in the modification of company SOPs related to Information Technology

Secondary Responsibilities
Contributes to team effort by
- Working with internal staff including project managers, consultants and applications support staff to assist with the development of project specifications.
- Exploring new opportunities to add value to organization and departmental processes.
- Helping others to achieve results.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Maintains Technical and Industry Knowledge by
- Maintaining a strong understanding of software development trends and technology.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of the regulatory requirements applicable to applications development in clinical trials.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or related field strongly preferred.
- Coursework in software development and major programming languages preferred.

Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a DBA using Oracle.
- 5+ years' experience programming or network/system admin is preferred. Any programming knowledge is acceptable but structured query language knowledge (SQL) is also preferred.
- 2+ years of PostgreSQL administration (i.e. installation, troubleshooting, replication) experience
- 5+ years experience working with clinical trials and/or within pharmaceutical environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of the drug development process including knowledge of FDA requirements for GxPs and 21 CFR Part 11 is a plus
- Proven problem solving abilities.

Working conditions:
Travel - 0-15%
Lifting - 0-50lbs.
Other - Computer work for long periods of time
Work Schedule - Requires availability to occasionally work unusual hours including evenings and weekends to accommodate Network repairs, upgrades, etc. May require responding to afterhours IT emergencies (i.e. on call)
