Account Examiner Job Summary

The Account Examiner is responsible for the handling of initial underwriting, new business and renewal set up, processing, projects, and/or communication assignments for various P&C products at Westfield. Responsibilities vary depending upon the Services area assignment. Duties may include obtaining information from agents and customers, processing and evaluating agency submitted requests for new business, endorsement, and renewals; providing underwriting and automation system support; and project center assignments including those focusing on premium generation, coding, correct classification, or agency support activities such as MVR ordering or quote support.

We are looking to hire multiple Account Examiners, full-time or part-time. These positions could be located at Westfield Center, OH or work-at-home in operating territory.

Salary Range: $35,533.00 - $40,862.00

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)

- Reviews individual accounts for exposure identification and acceptability of risk in accordance with company guidelines and standards. Sets up new business and/or renewal business applications for quoting, coordinates timely turnaround with underwriter, and reviews quote for accuracy.

- Gathers outstanding information from agents and customers and manages issue instructions when an order is received from the agent/customer.

- Analyzes, makes decisions on, and processes policy new business applications, endorsements, and renewals for multiple lines of insurance in support of company premium growth, policy retention, premium adequacy, and customer-focused quality of new and in force business.

- Evaluates and updates policy information that supports premium generation, policy review, and assembly. This may include agency or business partner quote support, policy coding, coverage review (such as verification of discounts and surcharges), error corrections, risk factors, correct classification, and premium growth opportunities.

- Orders and analyzes investigative reports (e.g. MVR's, inspections, D&B's, Predictive Underwriting) on present or potential customers. Reviews and takes action on estimates of coverage gaps, statements of value, and other key underwriting information.

- Utilizes underwriting acumen and authority to handle underwriting reviews up to allowable tolerances/threshold. Reviews system submitted requests (e.g. applications, endorsements, coverage increases, inspections) including agent inquiries received by email and phone to identify type of risk and if underwriting referral is necessary. Updates policy coverages, reviews inconsistent coverages and determines if additional action is necessary. Adheres to service level commitments and phone protocols.

- Develops relationships with key producers, agency personnel, and external/internal customers. May on occasion make agency office visits with an underwriter or leader to discuss and/or explain services. Responsible for maintaining and strengthening the established relationship with the agency personnel, local and home office team members, and the customer.

- Collaborates with other Westfield teams (e.g. Customer Care Center, Westfield Services) to accomplish department service, quality, and profitability goals. Assists the Legal department with reviews and responses.

- Provides education of commercial and/or personal lines products, policies, procedures, and rating variables through answering questions presented by underwriters, leaders, business partners, and agency partners. This may include training internal and external guests (e.g. agents, underwriters, business partners).

- May act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and perform technical direction on a variety of processing or automation related issues and initiatives. May be required to work within agency management systems and AWP (Agency Web Passport) to complete policy acquisition for transfer business, sales center service, password recovery and back office support.

- Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends, internal processes and procedures, and shares this information with team members. Helps provide training and support to new employees that are hired.

- Uses authority, if granted, as outlined in authority guidelines.

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)

- Experience working with customers including strong and consistent customer service.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills resulting in the ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external management and employee population.

- Strong organizational and time management skills needed to manage workflow efficiently.

- Experience executing and improving upon processes and procedures.

- Experience entering and/or transferring data through a system or process.

- High School diploma, GED, or commensurate work experience.

- Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer
