Howmet Structure Systems, located in Cleveland, OH, is a heavy industrial manufacturing plant which employs approximately 800 people and produces over 60 million pounds of aluminum, titanium, magnesium nickel alloy, and steel forgings. The site produces unique, engineered products in a wide range of configurations, sizes, and tempers for aerospace, military, and commercial vehicle applications.

Howmet Cleveland Operations is seeking candidates for a Senior EHS Professional role. The Senior EHS Professional is responsible for determining, planning, coordinating, scheduling and directing health, safety, and environmental activities to ensure regulatory compliance as well as protect human health and the environment. This position reports to the EHS Manager. Internal relationships include support to engineering, staff, supervisors and other plant personnel. External relationships include contacts with Division/Howmet EHS staff, government representatives, suppliers, equipment vendors, contractors, and others on matters related to EHS. The position will require expertise in Safety and Health with limited Environmental oversight.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Maintain a culture that is aligned with Howmet's EHS goals and objectives, with continuous EHS improvements.
  • Manage, direct, coach, lead, and motivate plant personnel to achieve EHS goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner.
  • Act as key EHS liaison with location manufacturing and maintenance organizations, assisting in the execution of their strategic and tactical EHS plans.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Health and Safety programs and activities to achieve, maintain, and exceed compliance with relevant regulatory laws and regulations as well as comply with Howmet policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Coordinate location Human Behavior (HP) implementation including, Behavior Safety Observation Processes and Critical 9 compliance audits of employee behaviors and plant activities.
  • Facilitate implementation of Health & Safety systems including Industrial Hygiene programs. EHS1 - EHS Management System, E2 - E6 Environmental ASATs and Medical Services will be allocated and managed through the Cleveland Operations EHS Team.
  • Participate in investigation teams, as required, to assure prompt, thorough incident review; make appropriate corrective action recommendations and entry into IHS and item closure tracking.
  • Identify and develop good working relationships with federal, state and local authorities (i.e., safety agencies, fire departments, etc.) as well as appropriate internal Environmental, Health and Safety contacts.
  • Develop, coordinate and/or conduct H & S training programs.
  • Oversee review process for providing temporary accommodations, and function as the single point of accountability for worker's compensation case management.
  • Coordinate and assist in the execution of capital HS projects to ensure compliance with requirements and completion on a timely basis.
  • This includes recommendation of HS capital equipment purchases and other equipment to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Lead and assist employee safety teams to understand and own safety and compliance.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the EHS function in a manufacturing environment.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a unionized work environment
  • CIH and/or CSP certification is highly desirable
