The EHS Manager is responsible for implementing programs such as the JCI Business Operating System to eliminate the risk of occupational injury and illness, and environmental non-compliance in a manufacturing environment.






      1. Ability to work “on-call” for any emergencies that may arise.

      2. Enter incidents (safety & environmental) and other data such as audit results into the Corporate Health, Environmental, & Safety System (CHESS)

      3. Maintain OSHA log and open corrective actions list (through CHESS)

      4. Conducts accident investigations and assists with determining root cause and resolution.

      5. Develops and facilitates appropriate and required plant safety training.

      6. Leads Emergency Response Team and Cross Functional Team meetings

      7. Ensures all new equipment meets OSHA guidelines

      8. Coordinate and teach annual required safety and environmental compliance training

      9. Conduct safety and environmental orientation program

      10. Evaluate facility for safety and environmental hazards and develop proactive strategies to address inefficiencies.

      11. Conduct daily safety reviews of operations.

      12. Work with regional workers compensation claims administration team, Third Party Administrator, and attorneys to manage open workers compensation claims.

      13. Lead contact for outside agencies such as Fire Department, OSHA, and environmental regulators.

      14. Ensure contractors are trained properly and adhere to contractor safety program requirements.

      15. Schedule annual hearing, and pulmonary function exams, and post offer physicals.

      16. Manage environmental & safety tasks on glide path.

      17. Manage CHESS system and CHESS auditing programs

      18. Coordinate safety action plan, ensure continuous implementation and improvement.

      19. Conduct safety and environmental audits; coordinate plant preparation for corporate audits.

      20. Respond to environmental incidents and spills, including completing investigations to determine root-cause and closure activities.

      21. Identifies and facilitates appropriate and required environmental training.

      22. Leads and coordinates emergency spill response team meetings.

      23. Evaluates facility for environmental aspects and develop proactive strategies to address issues.

      24. Ensure plant is compliant with BOS and all other environmental, health, and safety standards and laws, including compliance with all air, water and waste permits.

      25. Coordinate environmental objectives program, and ensure implementation throughout the year.

      26. Perform duties as the plant Environmental Management Representative (EMR).

      27. Lead facility’s waste reduction efforts.

      28. Advises plant management of safety related situations.

      29. Is a member (lead) of the Plant Safety Committee.

      30. Conducts housekeeping and safety inspections.  Assists in coordinating corrective action programs relative to safety for the purpose of orientating new employees and updating those on current roll.

      31. Educates and trains team facilitators as to their duties relative to safety training, safety inspections and injury/illness investigation and employee’s first report of injury/illness.

      32. Assist in accident investigation, helps to assure that proper reports/documents  are entered into CHESS

      33. Maintains the first aid facility of the plant.  Provides first aid treatment of on the job injuries or illnesses.  Maintains first aid treatment records.

      34. Keeps up to date of the latest safety procedures and equipment by membership in appropriate organizations, attendance at pertinent seminars and reading professional journals.

      35. Any and all other duties assigned by manager.





Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, environmental management, or related degree program.

Required Qualifications and Experience

10 years health and safety management experience.

Familiar with employment laws and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, RCRA, and EEOC).
