Cash Control Analyst / Accounting Clerk at BCBSM in Detroit, Michigan

Job Description:

Performs a variety of clerical and transactional tasks in support of the accounting function within the Finance division.

• Assist in the processing, recording, and reporting of financial transactions for accuracy and conformance to established procedural standards.


• Interact with internal and external customers regarding invoice processing, premium payment resolution, and procurement for invoice and supplier issues.


• Process non-purchase order accounts payable invoices and file financial information/data for recordkeeping.


• Handle the processing of claim refund checks and premiums, including upload template creation.


• Process mail for distribution and investigate Post Office returns to identify the correct address of recipient.

• High school graduate or GED equivalent is required.


• One (1) year of college with some formal Accounting/Finance courses preferred.


• 1 - 2 years’ work experience in a finance setting.


• Attention to detail and precise reporting abilities as an error could have a significant impact on the department and corporate credibility and image.


• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are necessary to achieve inter-departmental and inter-divisional goals.


• Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to communicate with co-workers, management, and other BCBSM departments, as well as banking institutions.


• Must possess problem identification/resolution skills, and exercise independent judgement with minimal supervision.


• Exposure to computerized systems and accounting applications; Microsoft Excel and Access preferred.
