Mentor Underwriter

As an Underwriting Mentor you will serve as a tenured and experienced underwriter providing continuous support to our Manila Associate Underwriters. You will act as an advocate for our partners, providing direction and feedback in the credit analysis of first mortgage loan requests. You will communicate with the Associate Underwriter to provide positive reinforcement and/or opportunities for improvement as needed. This includes collaborating on loan scenarios- including providing direction and potential alternatives for loans that require suspense resolution. You will be the primary escalation point, working with sales and support on scenarios presenting challenges to the credit decision. The mentor will be an enthusiastic ally to help ensure production results, positive customer experiences, seamless transactions and quality loan decisions.

As a mentor your primary responsibilities are:

• Provide direct and timely feedback on test cases and certifications.
• Work directly with our AUW team to develop their Underwriting knowledge and skill set
• Partnering with Sales and Ops to resolve issues with loans in the pipeline
• Conducting the final quality check on all loans underwritten by our AUW team, including completing final reviews of files prior to issuing the clear to close
• Routinely share feedback on the AUW team, including what areas of opportunity are observed so that targeted training for the AUW's can be implemented
• Reviewing In-House Test cases for Manila AUW and AUW Team Managers
• As a underwriting mentor you will serve as an energetic and enthusiastic liaison to the process improvement team and assist with various department / business initiatives.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of two years experience as an Home Lending Underwriter
• Minimum of two years in the mortgage lending business
• Excellent analytical and decision making skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate well in difficult situations
• Strong negotiation skills
• Thorough knowledge of complex personal and business financial analysis and is proficient at cash flow and Adjusted Growth Income (AGI) self-employed income analysis and corporate tax returns.
• Demonstrated experience in underwriting both manually and through the use of automated underwriting systems.
• Thorough knowledge of Mortgage Insurance policies.
