Description:

Our program strives to treat the whole patient by seamlessly integrating care for patient’s medical and behavioral care needs within our practice. The Primary Care Addiction Nurse Practitioner will provide nursing and medical services to individuals, families, and groups in the setting of a patient-centered medical home for a diverse population as part of a recovery program with a multidisciplinary team, including primary care, behavioral health, psychiatric services, and other support services in order to sustain long term recovery. The candidate will diagnose and manage substance use disorders along with other acute episodic and chronic illnesses while emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention. Services may include ordering, conducting, supervising, and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, and prescribing pharmacologic agents, non-pharmacologic therapies, and support services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Works in a holistic, patient-focused primary care medical home which incorporates treatment of addictions and other psychiatric disorders into the primary care model.

  • Provides direct patient care for substance use and other psychiatric disorders, both in person and via tele-medicine

  • Works closely with multidisciplinary team, including registered nurses, behavioral health therapists, physicians, pear recovery specialists, and psychiatric specialists to ensure integration of services.

  • Obtains comprehensive and problem-focused health history

  • Performs comprehensive and problem-focused physical examinations

  • Orders and interprets screening and diagnostic tests

  • Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making

  • Communicates effectively with patients and coworkers

  • Documents all clinical findings


  • Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Massachusetts license as nurse practitioner

    • Buprenorphine waiver (DATA 2000), preferably up to 100 patients, with willingness to prescribe buprenorphine, naltrexone, and other medications for treatment of substance use disorders

    • Certification as Addictions Registered Nurse - Advance Practice (CARN-AP) preferred

    • 2–4 years of clinical and programmatic experience as a registered nurse or as a nurse practitioner with patients for substance use disorders

    • BLS Certification.
