The Medtronic Diabetes Business is one of the most exciting, dynamic and challenging spaces in medical devices. More than 463 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes and this is expected to reach close to 600 million in 10 years. The diabetes device industry is unique in that technologies available to monitor and manage diabetes are starting to converge with consumer electronics technology. As such, the decision dynamics are evolving; patients have a stronger voice in therapy choice, care is transitioning away from specialists, and the role of artificial intelligence is elevating care.

We are seeking a talented Consumer Design Strategist to help our organizational market requirements transition to better align with consumer product experiences. The right candidate is an e xpert in collaborating with product managers, engineering, user research teams. Your work will directly impact the user experience of patients using medical device technology to manage diabetes.

The role reports into the Director, Upstream Marketing & Product Planning.

A Day in the Life


  • Responsible for the product conceptualization process and the formulation of a Diabetes medical technology roadmap

  • Defining product requirement specification and Expected User Experience for each product.

  • Drive technology roadmaps through technology research, evaluation, and partnership with Engineering.

  • Collate and analyze competitive market data and user feedback.

  • Provide ergonomic inputs and present case scenarios to the Industrial Designers from the user's point of view.

  • Work closely with Design, Sales, Marketing and Engineering groups to execute the plan as laid out and driven by the Program Manager to get the product out on time and in line with the product requirement specifications.

  • Deliver high-quality work, ranging from wireframing and sketches to high fidelity visual comps for device features, core UI elements and iconography

  • Implement designs ensuring they meet visual and performance standards

  • Collaborate with designers, engineers and other developers to iterate on best practices and refine overall user experience

  • Travel approximately 20-25%

Must Have: Minimum Requirements
In order to be considered, these minimum requirements must be evident on your resume


  • Bachelor's degree


  • 7+ years of relevant experience in marketing, engineering or similar or 5+ years with a Masters' degree


  • Must have experience in consumer electronic product design



Nice to Have


  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or design field


  • MBA


  • Ability to create designs that incorporate mechanical, electrical, and optical components for aesthetic and ergonomic functionality


  • Excels at crafting scalable design systems backed up by qualitative and quantitative data, designs for both product and creative perfection


  • Understand what drives engagement with content for people and orchestrate systems that are optimized to drive user happiness while meeting the business objectives


  • Knowledge of product development calendar, process, timelines, and deliverables


  • Can work independently, prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently


  • Strong administrative, organizational and communication skills


  • Working knowledge of diabetes therapy, clinical data, business plans and competitive products


  • Medical device experience


  • Previous Medtronic experience
