Position Description:
As a member of the Software Development team in Information Technology you will be accountable for delivering mission-critical solutions supporting Exelixis' Discovery group in a collaborative environment.
Position Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Consult with scientists to understand business needs and support those needs using applications and tools. Solutions range from configurable COTS to in house developed applications with the foci being data visualization, data analysis, and project tracking
• Coordinate assay data collection from in-house and contract organizations to integrate with other research tools such as ELNs and BIOVIA Insight
• Analyze and interpret data; troubleshoot problems and propose solutions
• Identify programming deficiencies and provide solutions via COTS applications or in-house developed processes using BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot
• Administer and maintain enterprise application such as ActivityBase from IDBS, Mosaic from Titian, and electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs). Train scientists to use these tools and provide support to the scientists
• Create and enhance existing ActivityBase and Insight templates for Microsoft Excel®
• Participate in setting goals for programs' implementation, including assessing impact and determining costs
• Interact and collaborate with other members of the Software Development group as well as groups in Discovery to understand problems and resolve them quickly
• Comply with company health and safety policies and other state and government regulations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• None
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Education:
• BA/BS in biology, chemistry or related field and seven years' experience; or,
• MA/MS in biology, chemistry or related field and five years' experience; or
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
• Experience in biochemical, cellular, antibody-drug, and / or PK/PD assays and data collection
• Experience in working with ActivityBase, Mosaic, and ELNs is a plus
• Experience in scripting with languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, and / or PL/SQL
• Understanding of relational database concepts, e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle
• General experience with Microsoft office tools, especially Microsoft Excel
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Knowledge of experimental methodology in one or more scientific sub-disciplines within biology, chemistry, genetics, or engineering
• Knowledge of computer programming principles and database design
• Goal setting with understanding of priority and impact to program, department, and organization
