Job Description:

The Fabrication Engineering Group provides fabrication engineering and materials management for both mechanical and electronic projects using state-of-the-art technology. The group is involved from the initial design through manufacturing, assembly, integration and test, and works with program teams to ensure performance requirements, schedule, and budget are delivered to plan. The group continually investigates innovative fabrication technologies to assess their utility for Laboratory efforts.

JOB DESCRIPTION

An individual who assists in laboratory, research, or analytical work under direction or supervision of scientific personnel. Operates highly technical experimental apparatus. Has demonstrated considerable skill and good performance in the particular field of activity. Requires some supervision.

Responsibilities include masking/painting of highly detailed precision fabricated hardware or parts. The application of multiple types of paint (Z-306). Ability to operate both spray and airbrush guns. Additional responsibilities included polymeric applications for optical-mechanical, electrical-mechanical and electronic assemblies, such as staking, bonding hardware, conformal coating, bonding, and encapsulation of components used in electronic hardware. Will be supported with first-rate hardware, infrastructure, talented peers, and a work environment that values excellence and continuous learning.

A minimum of two years of relevant painting or polymeric experience and graduation from a 2 year technical school is required or several years of relevant aerospace experience will considered in lieu of technical school. A candidate with polymeric applications and training in accordance with NASA-STD-8739.1 will be given very strong consideration.

Good communication skills needed. A willingness and capability to learn about new application and processes to support fabrication and integration.
