DESCRIPTION

The Department of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for two Dissertation Fellowship Scholars for the academic year 2021-22. In order to be considered qualified, applicants must be on track to advance to candidacy in a PhD program at an accredited university by 7/1/2021, and must have advanced to candidacy by the start date of 7/1/2021. International applicants are welcome to apply. We seek Dissertation Scholars working in Interdisciplinary, Social Science, Humanities, and STEM disciplines whose research focus is specifically situated within Black Studies.

The nine-month fellowship begins fall quarter of the 2021-22 academic year and scholars are required to be in residence the entire fellowship period, during which time scholars are expected to complete their dissertation. The fellowship award is $27,000. Dissertation Scholars will teach one undergraduate course and present one public lecture. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research and teaching.

Applicants must upload the following: cover letter, curriculum vitae, 3-4 page dissertation synopsis, dissertation chapter (approximately 25-35 pages), and sample syllabi.
