Summary:

As our power and reactive gas business continues to grow, MKS Instruments is looking for a Principal Test System Engineer (newly created position) with a strong technical background in module/system level test and machine design for a high mix / low volume production environment to join our test engineering team .

The role of the Principal Test System Engineer is to architect manufacturing production test systems and all associated fixturing for use in our Wilmington manufacturing facility and/or our suppliers' facilities. A successful candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision and provide leadership to other engineers and technicians in a dynamic semiconductor equipment and instrumentation environment. Ideal candidate must also be self-motivated, have an intense focus on customer satisfaction, and work well as part of a team.

Position Details:

-

Design, develop, document, qualify and deploy flexible, modular and scalable test systems and associated fixturing for in-house use and/or at suppliers.

-

Design, develop, document, and deploy the mechanical framework, tooling, fixturing, instrumentation and piping (including gas panel designs) using SolidWorks 3D CAD software for test platforms that could be deployed in production and service sites worldwide.

Interface with manufacturing process & product design engineers, as well as other cross-functional team members as required on new system designs and continuous improvement projects.

Create, update and communicate project plans and lead recurring project status reviews

Communicate effectively, in both oral and written form, critical technical information regarding system design and performance, including LabView test software status

-

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to shift priorities based on business unit needs.

Create and maintain test stand/process documentation, including plumbing & interface diagrams, bill of materials, mechanical layout, mechanical 3D modeling, facility requirements, assembly & sub-assembly drawings.

Reverse engineer legacy test systems to create adequate technical documentation package for the outsource of the assembly operations at a contract manufacturer.

Produce highly reliable, user-friendly ergonomically focused test system & fixture designs to be used in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Perform detailed mechanical designs including GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and conduct drawing reviews to ANSI Y14.5.

Candidate Criteria:

-

B.S. or higher Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of design experience, preferably in automated test equipment design (NI instrumentation exerience preferred).

Demonstrated subject matter expertise with SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD is required.

-

Candidate should have knowledge and 'hands-on' experience with fluid (vacuum, gas, & liquid) handling equipment design and functionality (piping, valves, pumps, controls, sensors, data acquisition).

-

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and able to work in a team oriented environment.

-

Excellent problem-solving and communication (both verbal and written) skills is required.

-

Semiconductor systems knowledge and/or high-accuracy instrumentation background is preferred.

-

Experience with designing electro-mechanical cabling and assemblies is required.

Experience with revision control (Perforce, Agile) and issue/project-tracking (Jira) systems preferred

-

Hands-on experience with electrical system wiring design (AC/DC, analog/digital circuits) preferred.

Hands-on experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscope, power supply, DAQ devices, etc.) required.
