OrthoNebraska is currently seeking a Medical Records tech to join our team! This casual position is located at OrthoNebraska's Oakview Clinic location. The use of Casual/PRN staff will fluctuate depending on the need of the department and does not have a set and/or promised amount of hours per week. Here's what makes for an ideal candidate:


  • High School education or equivalent required.
  • Medical Terminology course.
  • Basic understanding of HIPAA and PHI.
  • Must have an understanding of medical record principles and procedures.
  • Experience with batch scanning technology preferred
  • Experience with database software.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivating skills in order to complete assigned.
  • Able to coordinate and prioritize workload as needed due to interruptions.
  • Occasionally required to handle low to moderate levels of stress.
  • Ability to remain professional when handling irate customers.

What you would do in this role:

  • Analyzes organizes and enters paper documents into the electronic medical record.
  • Conducts focused audits of information in the EMR according to established procedures.
  • Perform quality and quantity checks on medical records. Scan documents and file images in the electronic medical record.
  • Verify the quality of document images as readable by comparing documents on the computer terminal to the original.
  • Process requests for patient information maintaining patient confidentiality and security of all medical records.
  • Provide clerical assistance through answering incoming calls and greeting visitors to ensure quality customer service.
  • Maintain a log of requests processed according to established procedures.
  • Prepare outgoing distribution of medical reports.
  • Must comply with safety policies and procedures, regulatory requirements such as OSHA and JCAHO and participate in corporate-wide and department safety activities.
