Post-doctoral Fellowship in Behavioral Research in Pediatric Psychology

Nemours Center for Healthcare Delivery Science, Nemours Children’s Specialty Clinic, Jacksonville, FL.

The Nemours Center for Healthcare Delivery Science- Florida announces the availability of a clinical research focused postdoctoral fellowship position to begin in the summer/fall of 2020. This position is for one year with the opportunity to continue for additional postdoctoral training time based on the candidate’s progress and individual career goals.

This fellowship is particularly well-suited for the new doctoral level trainee who would like to pursue a research-oriented career in pediatric psychology. The focus of the research experience will be in the area of pediatric diabetes management. The fellow will participate in and help to coordinate a NIH-funded, multi-site clinical trial testing a novel video-based telehealth intervention to reduce parental anxiety related to the medical management and complications of type 1 diabetes in families of young children. The fellow will be involved in all aspects of this clinical research project including recruitment and remote data collection, data collection via diabetes and other wellness devices, working directly with families and intervention delivery using HIPAA-compliant video-based telehealth software, working within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as grant writing and manuscript preparation. The particularly enterprising and hardworking fellow candidate may also have the opportunity to write and submit his/her own fellowship project for funding.

Opportunities for supervised clinical training are available to enable the fellow to accrue the hours necessary for psychology licensure. In addition, the fellow will have access to educational opportunities including Continuing Education Presentations (spanning topics from ethics to pediatric medicine), Biomedical Research Presentations, Grand Rounds, and Center-based Research Meetings. The fellow will belong to a strong cohort of pediatric psychology fellows through the Center for Healthcare Delivery Science (https://www.nemours.org/pediatric-research/area/health-care-delivery-science.html) and the Division of Psychology at the Nemours Children’s Specialty Clinic.

Nemours Children’s Specialty Care is an outpatient children’s medical specialty clinic located in downtown Jacksonville (a city with a population of over 1 million) in the northeast corner of Florida. Our main outpatient clinic campus is on the banks of the St. John’s River and 20 minutes from the Atlantic beaches. Nemours also has two satellite offices and serves a diverse population of patients.  There is an affiliation between Nemours Children’s Specialty Care and Wolfson Children’s Hospital, an inpatient pediatric hospital in Jacksonville, which provides the opportunity for Nemours faculty to function as attendings and provide medical training opportunities.

Qualifications for the fellowship include

  • PhD in psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program prior to the start date and completion of an APA-accredited predoctoral internship specializing in children/families.
