Job Summary

Coordinating the facility’s safety program thru various safety, health, and training activities to achieve zero harm and full compliance with all government regulations and company requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Monitor facility and processes for adherence to OSHA guidelines and the elimination of industrial incidents.

  • Work closely with the local HR Representative, Corporate EH&S staff and insurance company to coordinate all workers compensation claims.

  • Maintain company’s database and all other safety related records such as waste records in accordance with all federal, state, local, and company requirements.

  • Coordinate outside services such as Alarm and Fire and safety supplies.

  • Ensure all safety binders are kept up to date

  • Continuously improve the facility's safety program to achieve and maintain a zero-harm goal

  • Randomly observe department audits and GEMBA walks to assure they are conducted with rigor and intensity.

  • Research and implement new safety activities to keep the safety program current and effective.

  • Ensure all new hire and annual safety training is completed and documented in the database.

  • Conduct all employee safety orientations, certifications, industrial hygiene testing, classroom training, and practical hands-on plant floor training.

  • Conduct outside contractor training and emergency action plan training.

  • Chair safety committee and oversee plant safety project work teams.

  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

  • Regular and predictable attendance, safely perform tasks and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of the job.

Skills, Knowledge and Ability Requirements

To be considered for the Safety Coordinator position, the following conditions must be met:


  • Bachelor degree in Safety & Health field or relevant work experience equivalent to a degree

  • Minimum 2 years safety experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Understanding of all current government safety regulations (i.e., OSHA), workers’ compensation, emergency response planning & procedures, first aid, CPR, ergonomics and industrial hygiene.

  • Personality, presence, and confidence to lead meetings, coach peers & leaders, recognize success, and discipline bad choices or behaviors.

  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently prioritizing work to achieve deliverables.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with a strong math aptitude. 


  • Previous computer experience with Microsoft applications.

  • Personal desktop computers, fax machine, copy machine, calculator, writing instruments, telephone, and various printers.

  • Hazards - Exposure to Chemicals/Fumes, Pinch Points, Exposure to Excessive Noise, Strain/Sprain, Laceration/Puncture, Particulate Exposure, Contusion, Temperature Extremes, Slipping, Burns , Shock, Loss of Limbs

  • Controls - Personal Protective Equipment, Safety Training, Written Procedures

  • Safety Equipment – Hard hat, back belt, safety glasses, steel toe shoes/boots, cut resistant gloves, cut resistant outerwear, other equipment as dictated by the specific department.

Work Environment


  • Noise levels in the work environment can be moderate to high.

  • The plant facility is subject to the same general climate conditions of the region (heat, cold, humidity, etc.). 

  • Chemicals, dust, pollen and other typical airborne particulate matter are present within the atmosphere of the production floor and may create some odors in the plant. The Company, in an effort to provide its employees with a safe and healthy working environment, limits exposure to chemicals through written procedures, engineering controls and PPE.

  • While some chemical may pose health risks if not properly used, employees are trained on the proper safety equipment and procedures for handling chemicals.

  • While the chemical exposure and odors are under acceptable levels set by OSHA and the WCB, they nevertheless, can be smelled and are handled according to the company’s hazardous communication program.
