Project Variety
When you work for us, you won't be stuck in a rut of producing designs for one type of project. At Schemmer, you will have the opportunity to stretch your imagination to the limit and work on multiple project types. We work on projects large and small, from studies to construction documents, for public and private sectors, of different building types and different building systems.

Schemmer has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer ready to lead our Electrical Department. Manage Project Engineers to see that all aspects of Electrical department operations are covered including manpower schedules, project schedules, change orders, changes in scope of contracts, quality control reviews, and project marketing.

Types of projects include educational, industrial, commercial, life care, institutional and government facilities. Work would include technical interaction with mechanical engineers, structural engineers, civil engineers and architects. Client interaction will be frequent so good interpersonal skills are a must.

Responsibilities:

Leadership


  • Maintain a positive attitude and set a good working example for the office
  • Work to advance each employee and mentor junior staff
  • Keep up on current codes and governmental policies
  • Keep abreast of current technology and design trends
  • Attend professional organization meetings and participate on boards and committees
  • Be a team player and promote efficiency
  • Be courteous and professional in all dealings with company employees
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Act in a way representative of the company and consistent with the company values
  • Understand company's services, strengths, and weaknesses

Administrative


  • Attend Management meetings, strategic planning meetings and marketing meetings
  • Review individual employees' timesheets on a weekly basis
  • Maintain a dialogue with employees on the firm's expectations of their performance
  • Responsible for hiring, firing, training and performance evaluations of direct reports

Design Management

  • Perform scheduling for all projects along with tracking system
  • Develop quality control review procedures and manage resources to ensure that all projects are of the highest quality
  • Keep project team up to date on all changes or revisions
  • Experience, ability, and desire to provide creative and innovative design solutions.
  • Design work also includes coordination/connection with utilities, communication systems, structures, machines, equipment and processes.

Qualifications

  • Registered Electrical Engineer with 10+ years experience.
  • Experience working in a design firm in similar market segments.
  • Must possess excellent managerial skills in staff scheduling, technical assistance, project scheduling, budgeting, and client contact.
  • Experience in large projects and multi-discipline projects a plus.
  • The successful candidate will have a proven record in leading teams of design professionals on projects and as a department manager.
  • Experience should also include proposal writing, preparation for and participation in presentations, code analysis, technical detailing/construction documentation, technical specifications, staff scheduling and exceptional people skills.
  • Proficiency and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Working knowledge of Revit MEP preferred
