SUMMARY

The Architect supports Cherokee Nation 3S's client, Marine Corps Installations-East (MCIEAST) at MCAS Cherry Point in Havelock, NC. The Architect will work on the design and execution of repair and construction of facilities. The individual will manage projects and lead in-depth technical reviews of large and small projects as part of our company's on-site engineering team. Responsible for the preparation of detailed plans including but not limited to: floor plans, site programming, site analysis, building orientation and placement including major entries to buildings, vehicular and pedestrian circulation including development of major entries to the project site, landform, LEED requirements/analysis/incorporation, water quality features and low impact development (LID) practices, sustainable design methods, incorporation of Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) requirements, and site features to reinforce Anti-

Terrorism/Force Protection.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:


  • Provide technical expertise in to the Government's execution of existing facility renovations, new facility construction, and utility infrastructure upgrade/repair/replacement.
  • Perform a wide variety of technical initiatives including: drafting technical portions of contract procurement packages, reviewing technical reports and design submittals, performing construction submittal reviews, and supporting cost estimation.
  • Support construction project management efforts including: reviewing partial payment invoices, performing construction surveillance and quality assurance, supporting contract change order management, performing technical contract interpretation, completing project status reporting, overseeing construction safety, and performing project closeout.
  • Interface with other technical staff within an internal team, base civil engineering staff, installation stakeholders, government contracting staff, and construction contractors.
  • Develop, maintain, and utilize databases as decision-making tools and in concert with geographical interface systems (GIS).
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

No supervisory or management authority.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor Degree from a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) accredited Architectural program or approved equivalent experience, with a professional license.
  • Minimum of 8 years' of architectural design including at least 1 year working on facilities projects for a Federal Agency - preferably on a US military/DOD facility.
  • PMP desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Architecture license is required.
  • Experience with technical writing, participating in conference calls, note and record keeping, and presenting technical coursework material is required.
  • Ability to assist with construction field support including inspection.
  • Proficient in commonly used engineering software programs.
  • Utilizing and applying computer software including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI/SF85 for unescorted access to on-base facilities.
  • Working knowledge of design and engineering practices is required.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles is required.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state codes/guidelines is required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and lead others in studies, designs, and construction projects, record and manage the processes and documentation, and to negotiate effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations, where proposals involve substantial resources and require extensive changes in established concepts and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relationships.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, navigating on both paved and gravel roads.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is primarily performed in a federal office setting, a controlled office environment as well as working outside in a job site environment.
