Solid Waste Sr. Operations Administrator at CITY OF MEMPHIS in Memphis, Tennessee

and supplies. Provides work direction, assignment of duties, evaluation of work performance, and discipline of assigned staff. Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with employees, other department staff, management, vendors and contractors as necessary. Evaluates reports and publications to ensure compliance with applicable ordinances and regulations that may impact current and future division operations. Develops and reviews staffing requirements to maintain efficient and effective operations. Attends public, community and civic meetings on behalf of the Division of Solid waste. Keeps abreast of emerging trends and changes in federal, state, and local regulations. Interacts and communicates with general public, vendors, management, and other staff members on a variety of issues and concerns.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing with staff, public, government agencies, and other City department’s management staff. Requires ability to operate general office equipment such as a personal computer, radio, and telephone. Requires the ability to visually inspect work areas which may involve traversing uneven ground, sometimes across ditches, or in wooded areas. 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an office environment. Outdoor work will be required occasionally to inspect work sites and to meet the public. Must have the ability to oversee various operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree preferably in Business or Public Administration, Management, Public or Environmental Health, or a related field. Ten (10) years’ professional experience in administration of management, operations, or logistics with eight (8) of the ten (10) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of training and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Management experience in public sector strongly preferred. Working experience with related federal, state, local ordinances and regulations regarding maintenance activities preferred. A Master’s strongly preferred.


The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence
within Shelby County within six (6) months from date of Employment. Proof of residence
will be required at the time of hire.
