Requisition Summary

The PACCAR Technical Center is looking for an engineering intern to assist with improvements in data collection, archival, analysis, visualization, and reporting workflows for various engine programs, as well as improvements in the software calibration and release workflows.  The intern will have an opportunity to utilize a variety of technologies along with core engineering and computer science fundamentals to achieve this goal. This role has a strong potential to continue to make a significant impact in the long term.

Division Information

The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

The Engineering Intern will perform the following roles:

• Develop robust software (primarily in Matlab) to assist with data archival, analysis, and visualization.


• Research and develop methods to improve remote engineering data collection processes at the PACCAR Technical Center


• Develop applications to automate processes for the software release and software configuration management teams


• Create interactive reports using tools such as Tableau.


• Improve existing documentation and write new documentation

Qualifications

Requirements for the position include:

• Use of version control systems (SVN, Git)


• Strong programming skills required, object oriented design/development (Matlab preferred, not required)


• Strong knowledge of graphical user interface programming (GUI).


• Knowledge of database interactions is a plus


• Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, J1939, LIN, Ethernet) a plus


• Knowledge of the automotive industry in general and the commercial vehicle industry in particular a plus


• Strong attention to detail and passionate about solving problems.

Education

Junior or higher standing toward a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Mathematics, or closely related field)
