Primary Role

Performs jobs necessary for the care and maintenance of such mechanical equipment, buildings, property, and facilities as are in use at the Missouri-American Water Company St. Louis operations, to include fabrication and construction of such equipment and facilities as may be required in water utility operation.

Key Accountabilities

• Performs machine shop activities: operates a lathe, shaper, milling machine, drill press, etc. Sharpens tools, makes dies, pours and fits bearings, etc. Performs welding: acetylene and electric welding, soldering, brazing, and cutting. 


• Performs pipe fittings, pipe laying, boiler and heating plant maintenance: performs installation, repair, and care of valves, fittings, and pipe including screwed, sweat, flanged, bell, and spigot, mechanical joints, for both large and small pipe. Performs handling of large pipe, cast iron, concrete, steel, or any other material. 


• Performs electric wiring and motor care: assembles and repairs electric motors, installs conduit and wiring, traces electrical troubles, performs care of relays, remote control, and similar auxiliary control equipment. Performs metal working: performs cuttings and welding as used in conjunction with sheet metal work, bending, and fabrication of metal products. 


• Performs carpentry and millwright: includes concrete form carpentry and finished carpentry, setting of machinery, alignment of equipment, etc. Does all rigging and moving of heavy equipment and machinery. 


• Performs equipment and vehicle maintenance: gasoline and diesel engine overhaul and repair, vehicle maintenance, minor air conditioning equipment maintenance and repair. 


• Performs instrument and control: installation, maintenance, service, calibration of pneumatic hydraulic, electric controls, and instruments.

Experience/Education

• Must be experienced in two of the eight key accountabilities and demonstrate familiarity with two of the remaining skills as used at the St. Louis County operation.
