ROLE DECRIPTION:

Location : San Francisco, CA

Zoetis Reference Labs (ZRL) is currently seeking full-time Clinical Pathologists for multiple US locations. Zoetis Reference Labs is a new division of Zoetis Global Diagnostics and currently includes legacy Phoenix Lab, ZN Labs and Ethos Diagnostic Science laboratories.

Responsibilities of this role will include diagnostic interpretation of cytology, hematology, chemistry, coagulation, and endocrine testing as well as consultation with veterinarian clients. Opportunities to participate in CE offerings/wet labs for local veterinarians and technicians will also be available.

The Denver position is located within an animal hospital that hosts a full-service diagnostic laboratory, offering onsite hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis and endocrinology testing. The San Francisco position is located within a similar sized laboratory, offering all routine clinical pathology testing onsite. This lab will be located within a hospital that has an engaged, collaborative environment and offers wellness and urgent care services, and behavior medicine.

RESPONSIBILITES:


  • Cytological examination and comprehensive reporting of both digitized and glass slide cytology samples.

  • Examination of select CBC and urine sediment samples with comprehensive reporting including any supplied pertinent history and additional available laboratory data.

  • Protein electrophoresis interpretation and reporting.

  • Consultation with submitting veterinarians regarding current, prior or future cases and general clinical pathology questions that could include CBC/chemistry/UA, endocrine, serology, and protein electrophoresis results.

  • Participate in the local quality control program, new test suggestions and new test validation in the core lab

  • Assist in training laboratory staff and involvement in development of policies and processes in conjunction with the clinical pathology team.

  • Participate in continuing education events and general outreach to veterinary clients, in the lab, host hospital or outside venue, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • DVM (or equivalent)

  • Successful completion of formal residency training program in clinical pathology

  • ACVP board certification in Clinical Pathology (board eligible status will be considered)

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE


  • Strong diagnostic pathology skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with strong analytic and problem-solving abilities

  • Highest level interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member is essential

  • Self-starter with good organizational and time management skills and ability to structure workflow for maximum efficiency.

  • Flexibility to changing methods and technologies

  • 1-2 years minimum experience in a diagnostic laboratory preferred, but not required
