Position Name: Athletic Trainer
Job Summary: Provides evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute musculoskeletal conditions before, during, and after PRT in close proximity to where Soldiers train.
Provides expert coaching on proper body mechanics and efficient movement techniques in the training and field environment and in concert with a Physical Therapist.
Recommends and advises the Human Performance Team and unit leadership on all injury issues related to PRT.
Screen target population IAW local procedures and prepare physical profile to document functional limitations up to 7 days with no more than an additional 7-day extension.
Participate in and document peer reviews of AT health care records IAW local procedures.
Participate in and document meetings with battalion leadership, staff members, medical personnel, etc., as requested.
Provide input to monthly status report on best practices and lessons learned.
Participate in continuing education programs in order to meet certification renewal, as well as in government-based education and in-service training as mandated by the local installation.
Maintain current certification/licensing requirements as required by the contract and the applicable state board of AT.
Bachelor's Degree or higher from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
At least two years of relevant AT work experience within the last five years. Relevant experience includes developing and executing task and environment specific functional injury control and health/well-being programs for groups athletes or Department of Defense/Homeland Security/Justice entities focused on a common sport or mission performance goal.
Have a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification.
A passing score from the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer examination and hold credentials of Athletic Trainer, Certified (ATC).
An unrestricted state license/registration/certification in any of the 49 regulated states; the District of Columbia; or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the US Virgin Islands to provide health care within the scope of practice for ATs per state practice acts.
Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI) prior to starting work on the contract.
Working knowledge of the DoD organization, structure, functions, military department
Military experience preferred
Ability to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate with Soldiers, staff, and other ATs.
Demonstrate sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that they can relate to a variety of Soldiers from diverse backgrounds.
Proficient in the full Microsoft suite to include Word and Excel.
Unique and unpredictable work hours including nights and weekends depending on the project timeline.
Be required to observe Brigade specific training events (shooting ranges, obstacle courses, combatives courses, combatives training areas, etc) as directed. Must be physically able to hike in an austere environment and terrain (rocky, no running water, no shelter, no bathroom, no climate control, inclement weather, loud, smoky, etc) while carrying their own backpack with necessary supplies on occasion (<20% of the time).
Be physically able to lift and manipulate loads and weight plates up to 45 pounds.
