SUMMARY

Under general supervision and accordance to established policies and procedures, acts as relief for vacations, sick time, and cross-training for Quality Control Technician, Physical Tester, and Chemical Analyst positions. Completes all testing, data interpretation, documentation, responsibilities, and other roles of the position for which they are performing. Performs other testing and related laboratory functions as needed and assures accurate record keeping and documentation of all test results. Works as part of the lab team to ensure that products and results are consistently meeting quality standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Observes all applicable safety policies and regulations.

  • Analyzes results given by Quality Control Technicians.

  • Performs testing and analysis on samples from other plants.

  • Performs extra testing and tasks as required, in any of the labs (i.e. cleaning molds, lab projects, audit sampling and testing, collection and shipment of samples, etc)

  • Maintains adequate supply of all consumable supplies and materials for Quality Control Technicians by completing a weekly inventory and submitting purchase requisitions in SAP for approval.

  • Ensures lab equipment and environment meets specifications and calibrates lab equipment to ASTM standards.

  • Operates, calibrates and performs minor repairs on laboratory and field testing equipment when necessary.

  • Ensures Quality Control Manager is fully informed on all quality and deviation issues.

  • Maintains accurate, thorough and legible records of all test results. 

  • Understands and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all quality calculations.

  • Serves as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, safety and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.

  • Maintains accurate records in designated log books and locations for all testing performed and adjustments made.

  • Assists in performing additional non-routine testing for research when necessary.

  • Responsible for housekeeping and clean-up of immediate work areas and sample areas or in other areas in conjunction with assigned duties.

  • Assists in development and implementation of additional training tools, after manager’s approval, such as calculation spreadsheets, troubleshooting guidelines, etc.

  • Enforces and monitors Quality Control Technician cleaning schedule, sampling schedule, and safety documentation.


REQUIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


  • Ability to read and understand warning labels, instructions, signs and similar information.  Knowledge of and ability to comply with ASTM standards and testing procedures.

  • Ability to perform necessary mathematical functions and calculations.

  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with ASTM standards and testing procedures.

  • Ability to understand and describe the purpose of all required testing.

  • Knowledge and ability to perform measurement conversions, as well as an understanding of volume and area measurements. 

  • Must successfully complete on-the-job training provided by designated supervision or otherwise qualified individuals.

  • Ability to accurately and effectively read gauges and dials and use a manometer, x-ray fluorescence analyzer, particle size analyzer, compression machine, mixer, and autoclave.

  • Ability to use a computer for record keeping and calculations.  Must be familiar with spreadsheet and word processing software.

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk over rough uneven surfaces, climb stairs, lift objects up to 80 pounds, and perform repetitive motions such as lifting, pulling, pushing, and bending.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May be exposed to chemicals, dust, noise, heat, and all weather conditions.

Other requirements



Skills in basic applied mathematics and chemistry.

Strong reading, comprehension and documentation skills.

Ability to use test equipment such as crushers, shakers, and disk grinders.

Ability to use computers (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and specific software to run the labs).
