Under the direction of the Specialty Pharmacy Leadership the Specialty Pharmacy Medication Assist Coordinator is responsible for managing all duties regarding medication patient assistance programs. This includes identification and qualification of patients eligible for medication patient assistance programs, foundation support and free manufacturer programs. The Specialty Pharmacy Medication Assist Coordinator, serves as a resource to staff on copay assistance policy, procedures, and problem resolution for all our health system Specialty and Retail pharmacies and provides each pharmacy customer and their family with appropriate, considerate, and respectful service in accordance with YNHHS Standards of Professional Behavior.

Responsibilities


  • 1. Identification and qualification of patients eligible for medication patient assistance programs

  • 2. Interfaces with program administrators for reimbursement assistance programs sponsored by the drug manufacturer

  • 3. Keeps up-to-date of all changes in a particular patient assistance medication program

  • 4. Develops and maintains close interface with all components of the reimbursement process, including key hospital departments

  • 5. Ensures that patient specific income related information is obtained and available for review for foundation and grant compliance. Complete all requests for documentation for patient specific audits.

  • 6. Monitors trends and reasons for denied claims and takes action to resolve issues that interfere with prescription obtainment and patient adherence.

  • 7. Maintains database comprised of receivables, problems, standard forms and letteres and manufacturers that offer medication patient assistance reimbursement programs

  • 8. Tracks, documents, and reports out cost savings associated with patient assistance drug programs, and provides updates to pharmacy management on medication reimbursement opportunities

  • 9. Assists with the development of medication assistance policies and procedures pertinent to the area of financial distribution of foundation, grant, and manufacturer sponsored "free care" programs.

  • 10. Maintains and updates indigent drug reimbursement program information and coordinates distribution of new program information to appropriate personnel

  • 11. Provides report to pharmacy management regarding performance metrics such as volume of prescriptions, patients assisted and patients financial savings. Monitor and assist in revenue growth for fiscal year business plans.

  • 12. Reviews drug reimbursement accounts for appropriateness

  • 13. Establishes business relationships with appropriate hospital financial and clinical personnel and other pertinent hospital departments as required

  • 14. Catalogs existing information gathered from pharmaceutical companies and payers and keeps pharmacy administration informed of significant changes

  • 15. May also include duties associated with all Specialty and Retail Services.

  • 16. Act as liaisons between physician offices and pharmaceutical manufacturers to educate on changes with new products, programs and services

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Requires broad training in fields such as medical office administration, pharmacy technician, social services or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of associate's degree program, or being a pharmacy technician.


EXPERIENCE


3-5 years experieince as a pharmacy technician, pharmacy buyer or related health care experience.

LICENSURE


Pharmacy technician licensure required.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask/change tasks frequently and quickly. Knowledge of drug products preferred. Knowledge of requirements of the pharmaceutical industries Medication Patient Assistance Programs is helpful. Must be competent with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must have patient expertise in medication management. Working knowledge of commercial and government insurance plans including each states current Federal Poverty Levels (FPL). Ability to advocate for our patients with commercial and government payers. Must be able to assist with patient care and operational staffing as needed.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


May need to travel to various clinic sites for meetings/presentations.
