A Day in the Life The Sourcing Continuity Engineer will work in the Cardiac Rhythm and Heart Failure (CRHF) Supply Management organization. Engineer is responsible to achieve quality, service and cost goals as related to components from suppliers. Specifically this role will be responsible for engineering work with all suppliers who provide products and services for the Heartware business. This position supports Medtronic manufacturing plant located in Miami Lakes, FL. This position involves working closely with several other functions, including Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Design, Reliability and Regulatory.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for maintaining continuity of supply of components or contract manufactured product purchased from suppliers
Responsible for all supplier change activities
Responsible for supplier process improvement activities
Responsible for conducting supplier audits
Responsible for CAPAs associated with suppliers
Leads cross-functional teams to drive root cause and final resolution of supplier related issues
Leads cross-functional quality improvement and cost improvement projects
Apply principles of process engineering in order to improve suppliers' processes and materials
Assigned complex tasks, may manage medium complex projects or processes which failure to obtain results would typically result in moderate impact on customers and/or the business.
Responsible for coaching and reviews of work to lower level professionals
Provides technical engineering expertise and leadership to the Supply Management organization and suppliers, serving as the technical liaison between Medtronic design requirements and suppliers' technical capability to assure that robust margins are achieved and maintained.
Responsibilities may include: facilitation of Lean-Sigma continuous improvement with suppliers, support and/or implementation of structural Early Supplier Involvement (ESI) process in new product development to achieve Design for Manufacturability and Reliability; identification of key technical capabilities of supply base; establishment of control plans and monitoring systems for supplier processes; identification and management of risk associated with low margins between supplier processes and design requirements; facilitation and reporting of progress of supplier corrective actions as assigned by relevant CAPA system; providing core team input of Design for Sourcing/Manufacturability into new designs; long term technology/supplier scanning as input into product/technology road maps.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
Components - process knowledge of machining / molding and tool design knowledge is desirable
Contract Manufacturing - process knowledge of general assembly for either electronics and/or mechanical assembly
Proven problem solving skills; knowledge of DMAIC is preferred
Strong project management and leadership skills
Ability to multi-task and be organized
Strong interpersonal skills to work across multiple functions to resolve issues
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated strong technical writing skills
Basic statistics, including Six Sigma principles
Minitab for statistical data analysis
DOEs, SPC, FMEA, Gage R&R knowledge
Experience working in regulated industry like medical devices
